A larger trickle stage for the Excellent 80/100 XXL
The FS883 adds a large trickle-media stage to the conventional 80/100 XXL Gravity or XXL Pump Fed. It is the standard broad-body family’s shower, not the accessory for the narrow XXL Inline.
Its housing is 1,700 × 320 × 805 mm, with manufacturer reference WMC24CDT. On an installation of this scale, plan access, support and the wet media load before adding pipework or a roof around the filter.
A large shower with a separate flow limit
The maximum flow is 40,000 litres/hour through the 110 mm feed. Both XXL base filters can pass considerably more water, so a controlled branch or bypass is needed if the main circuit is running above the shower limit.
Do not assume that a module matched to a 100,000-litre/hour drum can itself pass that flow. Matching relates to the intended base model and installation; each treatment stage still has its own operating limit.
Making the media useful
Choose suitable shower media and spread water over the bed rather than allowing a few narrow channels to carry most of the flow. Mechanically filtered water helps prevent coarse debris from collecting on the biological surfaces.
The additional media needs time to establish a bacterial population. Continue ammonia and nitrite testing and adjust feeding to actual performance. An empty housing is not extra biological capacity, and freshly installed media is not yet mature media.

Access and alternative layouts
Provide support for the housing, water and wet media, with access to clear the distribution section. Keep the return free-running and consider splash, sound and seasonal cooling at the chosen location.
For the narrow, long XXL Inline base, use the WMC34ILT Inline shower. It has different dimensions and a lower maximum shower flow. Selecting the correct reference is especially important when “XXL” is the only label visible in an older invoice or photograph.
