A model-matched biological shower for the Excellent 30/50

The FS868 trickle module is an optional biological stage for the Excellent 30/50 Gravity and 30/50 Pump Fed. Its distribution section sends filtered water over suitable shower media, providing further surfaces for biological treatment.

The module measures 870 × 320 × 805 mm and carries manufacturer reference WMC21CDT. It is an add-on to the base filter, not a complete combi or a replacement for its drum.

A useful upgrade when the flow is planned

The shower’s maximum is 25,000 litres/hour, lower than either base configuration’s maximum drum flow. It therefore needs its own branch design if the main circulation is running above that figure. A larger base filter does not make the smaller shower safe to overfeed.

Allow for extra lift and pipe losses in the pump circuit, and retain a free-flowing outlet. A controllable supply makes it easier to establish even distribution without turning the shower into a restriction.

Choosing and maturing the media

Use suitable shower media supplied separately, with enough space for water to pass through the bed rather than find a few narrow channels. Mechanical filtration should remove solid debris first so the biological surfaces do not become a coarse dirt trap.

Mature the new stage gradually and continue ammonia and nitrite testing. Additional media is useful when it is properly supplied with water and oxygen; adding it does not provide immediate established treatment capacity.

Installation and comparisons

Provide support for the body and wet media, leave access to the distribution section and account for splash and seasonal cooling. The final installed height includes the base filter and mounting arrangement, not just the module dimensions.

The 30/50 matting-and-Hel-X package supplies media for a different part of the combi and is not the same product as this shower. For a larger conventional base filter, use the 50/70 matched trickle rather than assuming the 30/50 module can carry its full flow.
