Extend the Excellent 30/40 inline filter with a shower stage
The FS871L is designed for the 30/40 Low Inline Gravity and 30/40 Low Inline Pump Fed. It supplies an additional trickle-media stage while preserving the long, narrow layout of that filter family.
Its manufacturer reference is WMC31ILT and its body is 860 × 320 × 822 mm. The L in the supplier code matters: this is not the larger 30/45 Inline L shower.
Keep the shower flow separate from the drum flow
The maximum shower flow is 20,000 litres/hour, with a 63 mm feed. Both versions of the matching 30/40 Low base can pass more water than the shower, so design a controlled branch or bypass instead of automatically routing the whole circuit through it.
This is one of the most important details of the upgrade. The additional stage should support biological treatment, not reduce circulation or cause water to back up in the main filter.
Media and water distribution
Select suitable biological shower media and arrange it so water spreads across the bed. Leave open passages and avoid packing the module tightly enough to encourage channelling. The feed should already have passed through the mechanical stage so solids do not build up unnecessarily on the biological surfaces.
The new media will take time to mature. Build its biological load gradually and keep testing ammonia and nitrite as feeding changes. Do not substitute a combi’s loose moving-media or matting package without checking that it suits the shower configuration.

Planning the complete installation
Adding the shower adds height to the Low Inline arrangement and may add lift to the pump circuit. Allow for those changes along with the wet media weight, service access and a free discharge route.
Keep the distribution section easy to inspect and clean, and consider splash and winter cooling in exposed positions. Use the exact model reference when checking support and connections; an accessory with similar dimensions is not automatically a suitable substitute.
