Fitted matting and moving-bed media for the Excellent 30/50
The FS866MK package combines a Japanese-matting cartridge with Hel-X media for the Excellent 30/50 Gravity and 30/50 Pump Fed filter family. It is the matched 30/50 option, not a universal cartridge for every Excellent combi.
The fixed matting and moving media perform different biological roles. Keep them in their intended sections and provide the moving bed with sufficient air. The package does not remove the need to plan an external air pump for the working depth and media arrangement.
Check the model, not just the photograph
Cartridges in the Excellent range can look similar while fitting different bodies. Match the FS866MK reference to your filter’s model before ordering. If you are replacing the complete media arrangement, check the cartridge dimensions and supplied media with us first so you receive the right pack for your filter.
A correctly chosen package can simplify the media purchase, but it is still necessary to allow room for water movement, panel removal and routine maintenance once installed.
Separate media as another route
If the model-specific pack is not available, the base filter can be considered with separately chosen Hel-X and our high-quality Japanese matting. One FM2631 sheet measures 1.2 Ă— 1 m; loose sheets need cutting and a layout suitable for the fixed-media chamber.
Loose material is not a promise of the same cartridge construction, thickness or complete chamber fill. Choose one route deliberately and account for media already included in any filter offer, rather than paying for duplicate media that cannot all be used.

Commissioning and upkeep
Allow the biological media to mature under a gradual feeding load and keep checking ammonia and nitrite. Hel-X needs to circulate evenly under aeration, while the matting should stay accessible for cleaning in its separate section.
For the smaller Low combi, select the 20/25 Low package. For additional biological treatment beyond the base chambers, the 30/50 trickle stage is a different accessory with its own media and flow requirements.
