The Filtreau Moving Bed Filter 190L PE is a dedicated biological filtration unit designed to work alongside mechanical filters such as drum filters or sieve systems. It provides advanced biofiltration for koi ponds and ornamental ponds up to 30m³, depending on stocking density and feeding levels.

Unlike combi drum systems, this unit focuses purely on biological treatment. Therefore, it does not remove solid waste. Instead, it processes dissolved pollutants after mechanical filtration has already removed debris from the water.

The 190 litre bio chamber is engineered to hold approximately 100 litres of moving bed media, which is not included as standard. When supplied with suitable media such as Hel-X or similar floating carriers, the chamber creates a highly active biological environment capable of supporting heavy feeding regimes.

As water flows through the chamber, constant aeration keeps the media in motion. This “boiling” action ensures maximum oxygen exposure and prevents channel formation. Consequently, beneficial nitrifying bacteria colonise the media efficiently and convert ammonia and nitrite into safer nitrate.

With a maximum flow rate of up to 20m³ per hour when configured with dual inlets and outlets, the filter maintains strong circulation and biological stability. The robust PE housing resists UV exposure and weathering, ensuring long term durability in outdoor installations.

Biological Stability and Expansion Potential

The Filtreau 190L Moving Bed Filter provides significant biological capacity in a compact footprint of 550mm x 550mm x 750mm. Because it operates under low pressure conditions, it integrates easily into both gravity fed and pump fed systems after the mechanical stage.

The chamber supports approximately 100 litres of floating media. Once matured, this volume can process substantial feeding loads, making it suitable for koi ponds with higher stocking densities. If required, additional connections can be added to increase flow capacity.

The unit includes a pre installed air diffuser dome. However, you will require an external air pump and airline to power the moving bed action. Proper aeration remains essential for optimal nitrification performance.
