Drum filtration and UV-C for a pond with a pumped supply
The Filtreau Pump-Fed Drum Filter is an automatic mechanical stage for a pond where a circulation pump sends dirty water up to the filter. A fine drum screen removes suspended debris and the included 40W amalgam UV-C helps control green water, leaving you free to choose the biological filtration that follows.
This is a standalone drum rather than a complete combi with a moving-bed chamber. It can be useful when upgrading an existing filter system: the drum takes over the routine solids removal, while a suitable biological stage continues to process dissolved fish waste.
How the pump-fed cleaning cycle works
Water passes through the 70-micron screen, leaving solid material behind. As the screen loads, the level sensor triggers the drum motor and the rinse system. The rotating screen is sprayed clean and debris leaves through the waste channel.
The pressure-cleaning pump is selected separately on this model. Add the T.I.P. pressure-cleaning pump or use another correctly specified cleaning arrangement agreed for the installation. This supplies the spray bar during rinsing; the pond circulation pump has the separate job of moving water through the filter.
What the UV-C contributes
The 40W amalgam UV-C addresses suspended green-water algae as water passes the lamp. Keep the quartz sleeve clean and replace the lamp according to the unit’s service requirements; a lamp that still lights is not proof that its useful UV-C output is unchanged.
UV-C does not remove ammonia or nitrite. The separate biological stage must be matched to the pond’s fish load, feeding and operating flow. A Filtreau moving-bed chamber is one option to consider as part of a properly designed system, rather than adding loose media inside the mechanical drum housing.
Planning the flow and return
The pump-fed drum handles a maximum of 15,000 litres/hour. Select the circulation pump using its delivered flow after lift and pipe losses, then make sure the clean-water route can carry that water through the rest of the filtration and back to the pond.
Avoid reducing the return simply to use a spare hose. Water backing up after the drum can upset the operating level and cleaning behaviour. Where the pond instead supplies the filter through bottom drains before the pump, compare the gravity-fed drum rather than adapting the pump-fed model.

Installation and servicing
Use a stable, level base, leave space to open the lid and keep the waste outlet accessible. Confirm the actual unit dimensions and connection positions before building fixed pipework around it. The wash pump must have an appropriate water supply and installation; it should not be run dry.
Inspect the mesh, nozzles and waste channel routinely, particularly after heavy leaf fall or a clean-up of an older pond. Isolate power before reaching into the filter or servicing the UV. Keep the correct lamp and quartz-sleeve references with the equipment so future maintenance is straightforward.
