The pump-fed Combi-NEXT combines a self-cleaning drum, moving-bed biological filtration and 40W amalgam UV-C in one housing. It handles up to 20,000 litres an hour, with separate mechanical and biological stages to deal with solid debris and dissolved fish waste.

Full-height combined filtration for ponds with a pumped feed
The Combi-NEXT Pump Fed is a full-height combi for a pond that sends water into the filter with a circulation pump. Its drum removes suspended dirt before the water passes through the biological section and returns to the pond by gravity.
Included media: this package comes with approximately 100 litres of moving-bed media. Allow for this included quantity before ordering any extra media; an appropriately sized external air pump is still required.
This model has an XL drum drive and 40W amalgam UV-C, but no internal rinse pump. Where an integrated cleaning pump is preferred, compare the pump-fed NEXT with rinse pump before choosing the package.
A complete treatment sequence
The drum’s 70-micron screen catches solids. A level change starts the automatic cleaning cycle, turning the drum while the separately supplied rinse system clears the mesh. Waste leaves through its own channel rather than remaining among the biological media.
The moving-bed stage treats dissolved waste once its bacteria have established. The UV-C helps with suspended algae. Keeping those functions separate in the design makes it easier to understand what needs attention: green water, ammonia and frequent rinsing are not all solved by the same adjustment.
Specifying the cleaning system
A compatible external pressure-water arrangement is required. The controller and drum motor do not themselves generate wash pressure. Any mains-fed setup needs the appropriate controls and backflow protection, while a pressure pump needs a suitable water supply and protection from running dry.
Allow for the circulation pump as a separate component too. It supplies dirty pond water to the filter; the wash system operates the cleaning spray bar. Neither replaces the air pump used to keep the biological media moving.
Media and a sensible start-up load
Use media compatible with the chamber’s retention arrangement and include any existing package allowance when calculating extras. Keep the media free to circulate under aeration, with no static matting wedged into the moving section. A larger fill is not useful if the air supply cannot move it.
The fitted diffuser requires a separate air pump. Select on delivered airflow at operating depth, then check movement across the bed once filled. Build feeding gradually as the media matures and measure ammonia and nitrite; the drum and lamp can work immediately while the biological stage is still developing.
Flow and placement
Maximum pump-fed flow is 20,000 litres/hour. Use the feed pump’s output after lift and pipe losses when checking that figure, and give the gravity return a generous route back to the pond. Do not throttle the return to disguise a pump that is supplying too much water.

Access for the jobs that remain
Leave room to inspect the waste channel, spray nozzles and screen and to remove the UV lamp and quartz safely. Automatic cleaning reduces hand-washing, but it does not replace regular checks of the water levels and drainage. Isolate the equipment before working inside the body.
