Filtreau HF30 Drum Filter – Pump Fed with NEW XL Motor
Automatic mechanical filtration with a pump-fed layout
The HF30 Pump Fed is a standalone mechanical filter for an installation where a pond pump supplies dirty water to the drum. It is particularly useful when you want automatic solids removal but already have, or want to choose, a separate biological stage.
Maximum water flow is 20,000 litres/hour for this version. The HF30 name does not mean every pump-fed setup should run at 30,000 litres/hour. The lift to the filter, supply pipe resistance and gravity return all need to be considered together.
What the HF30 does automatically
The drum screen catches suspended particles down to its 70-micron aperture. When loading changes the water level, the controller operates the XL drum motor and rinse system. The spray bar clears the mesh while the drum turns, directing dirty rinse water to waste.
The 130 Nm drive is there to rotate the drum. It is separate from both the circulation pump and the pressure supply needed for cleaning. There is no internal wash pump in the standard HF30 package, so a suitable external cleaning-water arrangement needs to be planned with the installation.
Building the complete treatment system
UV-C is not included with the HF30. Choose a suitable unit for the water circuit if green-water treatment is needed, and retain an adequately sized biological filter after the mechanical stage. A drum alone cannot process dissolved ammonia and nitrite.
Keeping these components separate gives you flexibility when upgrading an existing pond. It also means checking that the biological stage and gravity return can pass the intended flow. A moving-bed module may be one option, but its connections and aeration must be designed as part of the same circuit.
A return that does not hold the filter back
Position the filter high enough for water to travel through the remaining treatment stages and back to the pond without a restrictive rise or bottleneck. Use the feed pump’s working flow, not its box rating, when checking return capacity.
Allow the waste line its own clear route. A pipe carrying clean return water should not become a substitute for the dirty rinse outlet. Keep both accessible so seasonal debris can be removed without dismantling the installation.

Comparing and maintaining the unit
For bottom drains supplying a filter at pond level before the circulation pump, choose the gravity-fed HF30. The standard pump-fed drum with 40W UV-C is a useful package comparison if an included UV is more important than the HF30 layout.
Confirm the actual housing dimensions before building permanent supports. Leave space to inspect the mesh, nozzles and waste channel, isolate electrical equipment before maintenance and keep UV equipment safely shielded if one is added to the system.
