Gravity-fed Combi-NEXT filtration with integrated screen cleaning
The Combi-NEXT Gravity with Rinse Pump is the integrated-cleaning version of Filtreau’s full-height drum and moving-bed combi. It suits a pond with bottom-drain or skimmer lines supplying the filter at pond level before the circulation pump.
The included internal wash pump removes the need to choose a separate pressure pump for the drum. You still need a circulation pump for the pond circuit and an air supply for the biological media: they perform different jobs from the rinse pump.
Automatic cleaning before the moving bed
The 70-micron screen traps suspended solids. A level change starts the XL drum drive and internal pressure pump, rinsing the rotating mesh and carrying collected waste out through the discharge channel. That keeps the biological area from becoming the main store for pond debris.
The 40W amalgam UV-C helps clear suspended algae. The moving-bed section processes dissolved fish waste as beneficial bacteria establish on its media. Neither clear water nor a clean drum proves the biological section can handle the final feeding load immediately after installation.
Getting the media loading right
Included media: this package comes with approximately 100 litres of moving-bed media. Allow for this included quantity before ordering any extra media; an appropriately sized external air pump is still required.
Allow for any media included in your selected package before ordering more. Choose the grade and quantity to match the chamber’s retention fittings, available water space and air supply. A bed that tumbles evenly is the aim, not a chamber filled to the brim.
The fitted diffuser needs a separate air pump capable of delivering sufficient air at working depth. Keep static Japanese matting out of the moving-media space unless it is part of a separately designed stage. As the pond matures, use ammonia and nitrite tests to judge how feeding changes affect the system.
This is an important distinction from simply buying a bigger filter. Flow capacity and biological feeding capacity are related but not identical, and the latter depends on the actual mature media and pond conditions. We can help match the setup to the pond rather than work from litres of water alone.
Gravity-fed flow and operating level
Maximum throughput is 30,000 litres/hour. The three 110 mm inlet branches and two outlets need enough pipe capacity for the intended flow, with valves accessible for isolation and balancing. Observe the running level as pump output increases so excessive draw-down is caught during commissioning.
Set the 1,040 Ă— 920 Ă— 1,020 mm body on a level supported base at the specified pond operating height. If a pump inside the pond will feed the dirty inlet, the correct model is the pump-fed NEXT with rinse pump.

Choosing and servicing the package
Compare the NEXT without an internal rinse pump only if you are planning a separate cleaning-water arrangement. Leave access to the lid, waste channel and UV assembly on either version.
Inspect the screen and nozzles routinely, keep the waste outlet clear and isolate power before servicing. A change in cleaning frequency is useful information about dirt loading or restriction; investigate the cause before changing control settings.
