A narrow combi layout for an existing pump-fed pond
The Combi-AFTER Pump Fed is designed around a narrow 570 mm-wide body, making it a useful option where pond-side space is limited across the width. It is 1,730 mm long and 1,020 mm high, so compare the full layout with the available base and return route.
Included media: this package comes with approximately 100 litres of moving-bed media. Allow for this included quantity before ordering any extra media; an appropriately sized external air pump is still required.
The filter contains its own drum and biological section. It is not merely an extra chamber that requires another drum in front of it. A circulation pump delivers dirty water to this pump-fed version, and the cleaned water returns to the pond by gravity.
Cleaning the drum and treating the water
The 120-micron screen holds suspended solids out of the biological area. As the screen loads, a level change starts the drum motor and rinse system. The spray bar removes trapped dirt and sends it through the waste channel.
Biological media then provides surfaces for bacteria that process ammonia and nitrite. The 40W amalgam UV-C helps with suspended green-water algae. Those are separate treatment tasks, so neither an active UV lamp nor frequent rinsing can compensate for an immature or overloaded biological section.
What to plan alongside the filter
This version has no internal pressure-cleaning pump. A suitable external cleaning-water arrangement must be specified, with proper protection and controls if mains water is used. Compare the pump-fed AFTER with rinse pump if you prefer an integrated cleaning package.
The pond circulation pump and media air pump are separate choices on either model. Select the air supply for the fitted diffuser, media load and working depth. Keep the moving bed free to circulate and account for any media included in the chosen package before purchasing more.
Japanese matting should not be pushed into the moving-bed section without a designed separate static stage. The ability to keep media moving and maintain it properly is more useful than simply filling the maximum available space.
Making the pump-fed layout reliable
Maximum filter flow is 25,000 litres/hour. Calculate the feed pump’s output after lift and pipe losses, and keep the return free enough to carry that flow without backing up. The filter’s narrow profile should not be followed by an undersized return chosen only for convenience.
For a shorter, wider body, compare the Combi-NEXT Pump Fed. For bottom drains feeding the filter before the circulation pump, choose the gravity-fed AFTER instead.

Access and commissioning
Keep the waste pipe, lid and UV assembly accessible after all the surrounding pipework is installed. Observe the operating levels and waste discharge through several rinse cycles, then increase circulation gradually. Allow new media to mature under controlled feeding and check ammonia and nitrite regularly.
Routine inspection of the mesh, nozzles and waste channel remains important even with automatic cleaning. Isolate electrical equipment before servicing and never run a UV lamp exposed.
