Filtreau HF30 Drum Filter – Gravity Fed with NEW XL Motor

A standalone drum for a gravity-fed treatment system

The Filtreau HF30 Gravity is a mechanical drum filter for pond keepers building or upgrading a system around separate treatment stages. It removes suspended solid waste before the circulation pump and biological filter, with automatic cleaning to reduce regular hand-washing of mechanical media.

The HF30 gives you control over the rest of the installation. It is not supplied as a complete drum-and-bio combi, and UV-C is an optional addition rather than part of the standard unit. That can be useful when your existing pond already has a suitable UV or biological filter.

A fine screen and a stronger drum drive

The 70-micron mesh holds back fine suspended solids. As restriction develops, the level-operated controller turns the drum so the spray bar can rinse the collected material into the waste channel. The XL drive has 130 Nm of torque, but the motor does not move pond water or provide the cleaning pressure.

Plan a compatible external cleaning-water supply: this version has no internal wash pump. The pressure and plumbing must suit the filter’s rinse system. If using a mains-fed arrangement, it needs the correct controls and backflow protection; a direct unprotected connection is not a shortcut to a finished installation.

Choosing the stages after the drum

The HF30’s job is solids removal. Biological media downstream processes dissolved fish waste, and a separately selected UV-C unit can help control suspended algae. Consider those stages together, including their flow limits, rather than matching them only by the pond-volume figure on a label.

The 190-litre moving-bed filter is one possible biological component. A shower or existing mature biological filter may be more suitable for another pond. Loose Hel-X or Japanese matting should not be added inside the HF30 drum housing as though it were a combi chamber.

Designing for useful flow

Maximum gravity-fed throughput is 30,000 litres/hour. Two 110 mm inlets and two 110 mm outlets need an arrangement that keeps resistance under control and leaves isolation valves accessible. Long restricted drain lines can cause excessive draw-down before the filter reaches its nominal maximum.

Compare the standard drum with included 40W UV-C for a different package, or the pump-fed HF30 if a pond pump will feed the dirty-water inlet. The two HF30 configurations have different operating layouts and flow limits.

Service access matters

Leave enough room to inspect the drum, clear the waste channel and work on the spray bar. Agree the exact housing and connection dimensions before setting permanent concrete levels or cutting a manifold, especially when replacing an older drum.

Regular checks remain worthwhile even with automatic cleaning. Changes in rinse frequency can point to dirt loading, a blocked nozzle, low water supply or restricted pipework. Diagnose the cause rather than repeatedly altering the level controls to hide the symptom.
