AquaForte Drum Filter ATF-XL

The AquaForte ATF-XL is a large automatic drum pre-filter for gravity-fed or pump-fed pond systems. A 75-micron stainless screen intercepts suspended solids; when the screen becomes restricted, the controller rotates the drum and activates the rinse cycle so waste is flushed to drain instead of remaining in the pond circuit.

Its polypropylene body, low-voltage 48VDC drive and large 110mm hydraulic connections are aimed at koi ponds and swimming ponds that need high mechanical flow without daily manual cleaning.

Designing the installation

For gravity-fed use, establish the exact operating waterline before fixing the 110mm pipes. The drum needs enough inlet area from bottom drains and skimmers to pass the target flow without excessive drawdown. In pump-fed use, provide a safe overflow and ensure a control fault cannot empty the pond.

Route the waste with continuous fall, protect the rinse supply and leave clearance for removing the screen, spray bar and motor. A drum removes solids; it does not provide sufficient biological filtration on its own, so plan the downstream bio stage from feeding load.

Our practical view: A drum filter should make maintenance easier, not hide it. Keep the lid, spray nozzles, drive and waste chute visible enough to notice a developing problem before the screen blocks on a bank-holiday weekend.

Frequently asked questions

Does it include biological filtration?

No. It is primarily an automatic mechanical pre-filter; provide a suitable biological stage.

Can it be pump fed?

Yes, when installed to the pump-fed arrangement with safe overflow protection.

What rinse water does it need?

Use the manufacturer’s clean-water pump arrangement or a mains supply providing at least the stated pressure.

Is 35m³/h the correct flow for my pond?

Not automatically. Pipework, drawdown, biological capacity and desired turnover all matter.

What happens during a power cut?

Plan a safe hydraulic level and overflow route so the pond cannot drain or the filter flood when control is lost.
