Filtreau Combi 50XL Drum Filter with Built-in Rinse Pump – Pump Fed

Automatic drum cleaning and twin UV-C in a pump-fed combi

The Filtreau Combi 50XL Pump Fed is a larger combined filter for water supplied by pond circulation pumps. It brings automatic drum cleaning, a biological section and two 40W amalgam UV-C units into a single 1,270 Ă— 900 mm footprint.

Included media: our package comes with approximately 100 litres of moving-bed media. Allow for this included quantity before choosing any extra media; a suitably sized external air pump is still required.

The maximum throughput for this pump-fed model is 30,000 litres/hour. The 50XL name should not be read as permission to send 50,000 litres/hour into it; the feed pump and gravity return need to be matched to this version’s actual limit.

Cleaning the screen with its own pressure pump

The 520 Ă— 420 mm drum uses a 120-micron screen to separate suspended waste. As loading changes the water level, the control system operates the drum drive and internal wash pump. The spray bar rinses the rotating screen and directs debris to waste.

The wash pump is supplied, but the circulation pump remains a separate choice. One lifts water from the pond; the other provides pressure for the cleaning cycle. The air pump serving the biological section performs a third, separate job.

Media, oxygen and twin UV-C

Two 40W amalgam UV-C units help control green water. Their quartz sleeves and lamps need a clear service route, so include that space when positioning the body. UV-C treats suspended algae rather than replacing the biological treatment of dissolved fish waste.

Choose media compatible with the biological chamber and retention fittings, allowing for any media already included in the selected package. Leave sufficient room for movement under aeration and select an air pump for its delivered output at operating depth.

Static Japanese matting should not be inserted into the moving-media space without a designed separate section. Use water tests to monitor maturation and increase feeding gradually rather than assuming the full pond rating is available immediately after installation.

The return route deserves equal attention

A pump-fed filter depends on water draining away freely. Include every return restriction, additional stage and height change when deciding the installed position. An adjustable feed pump can help establish the correct flow, but it cannot make an inadequate return large enough.

Compare the gravity-fed 50XL if the pond will feed the filter before the pumps. The Excellent 30/50 Pump Fed is another useful comparison, with its own body dimensions, media arrangement and flow limit.

Installation and ownership

Support the full base and leave room above the 1,030 mm-high housing to open the lid safely. Keep the waste channel, spray bar and both UV units reachable. Observe the filter through several rinse cycles during commissioning before settling on a circulation setting.

Check the screen, nozzles and waste line regularly, especially during heavy feeding or seasonal debris loads. Isolate electrical equipment before maintenance and never operate exposed UV lamps.
