High Capacity Pump Fed Drum Filtration with Expandable Biological Performance

For a limited time, we are including approximately 100 litres of premium moving bed media with the Filtreau Combi 50XL at no additional cost. As a result, the system delivers strong biological performance from installation. The moving bed chamber has a total capacity of approximately 400 litres, which means you can add further media later as stocking levels increase.

The Filtreau Combi 50XL Pump Fed is designed for installations where the filter sits above pond water level. In this configuration, a pond pump pushes water into the drum filter, and the clean water then returns to the pond via gravity. This makes it ideal for raised ponds, retrofits and systems where gravity layout is not practical.

With 4 x 110mm inlets and 3 x 110mm outlets, the unit supports flow rates of up to 50m³ per hour. Therefore, even large koi ponds up to 80m³ benefit from strong turnover and rapid mechanical waste removal. We recomend using the Charles Austen ET100 Airpump with this filter.

Mechanical Separation, Moving Bed Bio and Dual UV Sterilisation

At the centre of the system is a Ø520 x 420mm stainless steel drum fitted with a 120 micron screen. As debris accumulates, the stainless steel float switch detects reduced flow and activates the automatic cleaning cycle. The integrated 5 bar rinse pump powers high pressure spray nozzles, flushing waste directly to drain while the upgraded XL SPG motor rotates the drum with consistent torque.

By removing solids immediately, the system reduces organic breakdown and protects the biological stage. Consequently, ammonia spikes are minimised and long term stability improves.

After mechanical separation, water flows into the large moving bed chamber. Supplied with 100 litres of media included and expandable up to approximately 400 litres total capacity, the chamber provides substantial surface area for nitrifying bacteria. The integrated 35cm air diffuser keeps the media in constant motion, improving oxygen exposure and maximising ammonia and nitrite conversion.

Twin 40W Amalgam UV-C immersion units operating at 253.7nm provide consistent sterilisation across varying water temperatures. As a result, algae spores and harmful microorganisms are suppressed, helping maintain clear water and healthier pond conditions throughout the year.

The reinforced 15mm base plate and double sealed XL SPG drive motor ensure durability and stable operation, even under heavy debris loads.
