High Performance Drum and Rotating Biological Filtration System
The Filtreau Excellent Combi Drum 50/70 Mountain Tree is a professional grade filtration system engineered for serious koi ponds and high demand ornamental installations. It combines precision 120 micron stainless drum filtration with a rotating Mountain Tree biological drum and integrated High Output UV sterilisation, delivering strong mechanical separation and long term biological stability.
Unlike standard combi drum filters, the Mountain Tree 50/70 incorporates a rotating biological drum containing genuine Mountain Tree media. This design increases oxygen exposure, prevents channel formation and maximises nitrification efficiency under heavier stocking levels. The system is gravity fed as standard.
Automatic Mechanical Drum Filtration
Water enters through 3 x 110mm inlets and passes through a Ø500 x 400mm stainless steel drum fitted with a precision 120 micron mesh screen.
Fish waste, uneaten food and suspended debris are removed immediately. As the screen begins to restrict flow, a stainless steel float switch activates the automatic rinse cycle. Two industrial 130Nm SPG motors rotate the drum while the internal 750W RVS 5 bar flushing pump powers high pressure spray nozzles.
Waste is flushed directly to drain, preventing organic breakdown within the system and reducing ammonia load on the biological stage.
Maximum flow rate is approximately 50m³ per hour, with a recommended pond volume of up to 100m³ depending on stocking density.
Mountain Tree Rotating Biological System
The 50/70 Mountain Tree includes:

• Mountain Tree Spiral Filter Mat
The Lotus Root Bacteria House II features a porous lotus root structure with nanopores, creating a very high surface area for beneficial bacteria colonisation. Its mineral properties assist in stabilising water parameters and supporting koi development.
The Spiral Filter Mat uses a patented 3D spiral design that promotes strong oxygen circulation while reducing clogging risk.
Unlike static bio chambers, the Mountain Tree media rotates within a dedicated biological drum. This constant movement increases oxygen contact, keeps biofilm active and prevents channel formation. As a result, nitrification efficiency improves and long term biological stability increases.
The biological section is supported by 2 x 50 x 300mm air diffusers to maintain strong aeration. We recommend the Charles Austen ET150 Airpump for this filter system.
Integrated UV Sterilisation
The system includes:
1 x 80W High Output UV-C immersion module
Operating at 253.7nm, it suppresses algae spores and reduces harmful microorganisms as water passes through the unit. This supports clear water and reduces reliance on chemical treatments.
