XL Drum and Rotating Biological Filtration for High Demand Koi Ponds

The Filtreau Excellent Combi Drum 50/65 XL Mountain Tree is a professional grade filtration system engineered for high demand koi ponds and large ornamental installations. Designed for serious applications, it combines 120 micron stainless drum filtration, a rotating Mountain Tree biological drum and integrated High Output UV sterilisation in one robust platform.

Unlike standard combi drum filters, the Mountain Tree 50/60XL uses a rotating biological drum containing genuine Mountain Tree media. This design increases oxygen exposure, prevents channel formation and maximises nitrification efficiency, delivering superior long term biological stability. The system is gravity fed as standard.

Industrial Mechanical Drum Filtration

Water enters through 7 x 110mm inlets and passes through a Ø650 x 400mm stainless steel drum fitted with a precision 120 micron screen.

Solid waste, fish debris and suspended particles are removed before they can degrade water quality. As the mesh begins to restrict flow, a stainless steel float switch activates the automatic cleaning cycle. Two industrial 130Nm SPG motors rotate the drum while the internal 750W RVS 5 bar flushing pump powers the high pressure rinse nozzles.

Waste is flushed directly to drain. Because solids are extracted immediately, ammonia production is reduced and the biological stage remains significantly cleaner.

Maximum flow rate is approximately 65m³ per hour, with a recommended pond volume of up to 130m³ depending on stocking density.

Mountain Tree Rotating Biological System

This model includes genuine Mountain Tree media as standard:

• Lotus Root Bacteria House II
• Mountain Tree Spiral Filter Mat

The Lotus Root Bacteria House II features a porous lotus root structure with nanopores, creating a very high surface area for beneficial bacteria colonisation. Its mineral composition supports stable water chemistry and improved koi development.

The Spiral Filter Mat uses a patented 3D spiral structure that promotes oxygen circulation while reducing clogging risk.

Unlike traditional static bio chambers, the Mountain Tree media rotates within a dedicated biological drum. This movement:

• Increases oxygen exposure
• Keeps biofilm active
• Prevents channel formation
• Improves nitrification efficiency
• Enhances long term biological stability

Four integrated 50 x 300mm air diffusers support aggressive aeration inside the biological section. We recommend the Charles Austen ET150 Airpump for this filter system.

Integrated UV Sterilisation

The 50/60XL Mountain Tree includes:

1 x 80W High Output UV-C immersion module

Operating at 253.7nm, it suppresses algae spores and reduces harmful microorganisms as water passes through the system. This supports clear water and reduces reliance on chemical treatments.
