Compact Rotating Biological Drum Filtration System
The Filtreau Excellent Combi Drum 30/40 Low Mountain Tree is a professional low-profile filtration system designed for koi ponds where installation height is limited but performance must remain uncompromised. It combines precision 120 micron stainless steel drum filtration with a rotating Mountain Tree biological drum and integrated 80W High Output UV sterilisation.
Unlike standard combi drum filters that use static bio chambers, this Mountain Tree model incorporates a rotating biological drum containing genuine Mountain Tree media. This rotating design increases oxygen exposure, improves nitrification efficiency and delivers stronger long-term biological stability under demanding stocking levels.
With a height of just 750mm, this low version is ideal for shallow filter pits while still delivering serious filtration performance. The system is suitable for gravity fed installations.
Automatic Mechanical Drum Filtration
Water enters via 3 x 110mm inlets and passes through a Ø500 x 400mm stainless steel drum fitted with a 120 micron precision screen.
Fish waste, uneaten food and suspended solids are removed immediately before they degrade water quality. As the drum screen begins to restrict flow, a stainless steel float switch activates the cleaning cycle. Two 130Nm SPG motors rotate the drum while the internal 750W RVS 5 bar flushing pump powers high pressure spray nozzles.
Waste is flushed directly to drain, preventing organic breakdown and reducing ammonia production before the water reaches the biological stage.
Maximum recommended flow rate is 40m³ per hour, supporting pond volumes up to 80m³ depending on stocking density.
Mountain Tree Rotating Biological Drum

The Lotus Root Bacteria House II features a porous lotus root structure with nanopores, creating a large surface area for beneficial bacteria. Its mineral composition supports water stability and koi development.
The Spiral Filter Mat uses a patented 3D spiral structure that improves oxygen circulation while reducing clogging risk.
Unlike static biological chambers, the Mountain Tree media rotates continuously within a dedicated biological drum. This constant movement prevents channel formation, maximises oxygen contact and keeps biofilm active. The result is stronger nitrification performance and improved long-term water stability.
The biological section is supported by 4 x 50 x 300mm air diffusers for enhanced aeration. We recommend the Charles Austen ET150 Airpump for this filter system.
Integrated UV Sterilisation
The system includes:
1 x 80W High Output UV-C immersion module
Operating at 253.7nm, it suppresses algae spores and reduces harmful microorganisms as water passes through the system. This supports clear water and reduces reliance on chemical treatments.
