The Excellent 50/65 Inline XL Gravity offers a larger drum and more pipe connections while keeping its body to 850 mm wide. It is a strong option to compare when the pond needs substantial circulation but the filter area cannot take a conventional wide combi.

Its 2,254 mm length matches the Inline L footprint in one direction, but the larger drum and wider body change the installation and capacity. Allow working room around the full housing rather than treating its outside measurements as the finished filter-room dimensions.

Seven inlet branches for a larger pond

Seven 110 mm inlets offer flexibility for bottom drains and skimmers, while three 110 mm outlets connect to the clean side of the circulation system. The maximum flow is 65,000 litres/hour. Each branch still needs an appropriate route and valve arrangement; a large number of ports does not automatically produce balanced flow.

The drum captures suspended waste on a 120-micron screen. When restriction triggers cleaning, the motor rotates the drum and the internal wash pump rinses the mesh through the spray bar. Waste exits separately instead of accumulating in the biological chambers.

Media chosen for the job

The optional media configuration comprises 200 litres of Hel-X and 4 m² of Japanese matting. Provide sufficient air at working depth for the moving section and keep fixed matting in its intended compartment. The four fitted air bars are supplied by a separate air pump.

For uncut matting, select our high-quality Japanese matting sheets. Each is 1.2 × 1 m; two total 2.4 m² before cutting, so a one- or two-sheet addition is not a complete 4 m² fit-out. Measure the chamber layout and allow space for water to pass through and for panels to be removed later.

The 80W high-output UV-C helps clear suspended algae. Meanwhile, biological media needs time to mature and sufficient oxygen to process the pond’s dissolved waste. A maximum koi-pond rating is not a feeding guarantee, particularly for a heavily stocked or newly commissioned system.

Useful comparisons before choosing

The conventional 50/70 Gravity is shorter and wider, with a different connection layout. The 80/100 XXL Inline Gravity is longer again and uses a longer drum. Compare those practical differences with your pond’s circulation plan and the space available.

For water pumped into the filter from the pond, use the pump-fed 50/65 Inline XL, whose maximum throughput is lower than this gravity-fed version.

Dimensions and performance

Planning for servicing

Set the body level at the correct operating height and provide access to the drum, spray bar, media and UV. The optional 50/65 Inline trickle stage needs a planned water feed and suitable support; it is not a way of exceeding the drum’s flow limit.

Check waste drainage, screen condition and water levels as part of routine care. The Excellent manual gives the safe maintenance procedures, including electrical isolation and protection of the screen during cleaning.
