The Filtreau Excellent Combi Drum 80/100 XXL Gravity Fed Inline is the largest inline configuration in the Excellent range. Engineered for estate lakes, commercial koi systems and large scale aquatic installations, this XXL combi unit delivers exceptional mechanical separation and expansive biological performance under extreme load conditions.

With overall dimensions of approximately 2900mm x 850mm x 1005mm, this elongated inline chassis is specifically designed for narrow filter bays and side wall installations. As a result, it allows high capacity gravity systems to operate efficiently where width is restricted but flow demand remains extremely high.

In gravity fed inline configurations, the 80/100 XXL supports flow rates of up to approximately 100000 litres per hour. It is typically suited for koi ponds in the region of 120000 to 150000 litres depending on stocking levels, and ornamental or lake systems up to approximately 200000 to 250000 litres.

Ultra High Capacity Mechanical Filtration with UV

At the core of the system sits a large stainless steel drum fitted with a precision 120 micron screen. This fine mesh removes suspended solids before they reach the biological chamber. Consequently, the bio stage remains cleaner, more stable and more efficient even during high feeding regimes.

When debris restricts flow, the stainless steel float switch activates the automatic cleaning cycle. The industrial 130Nm SPG XXL motor rotates the drum while high pressure spray nozzles clean the mesh. Meanwhile, the internal RVS 5 bar flushing pump powers the wash cycle to ensure consistent debris removal.

As a result, the filter maintains stable mechanical separation at ultra high flow rates.

The 80/100 XXL Gravity Inline features an 80W high output stainless steel immersion UV unit operating at 253.7nm. This provides strong algae suppression and pathogen control across large water volumes. It also includes an automatic top up.

Expanded Biological Chamber and Media Configuration

The 80/100 XXL Inline incorporates a substantially enlarged biological chamber designed to hold approximately 450 to 500 litres of filter media.

For optimal biological performance, we recommend using 250 to 300 litres of Hel-X moving bed media. However, sufficient void space must remain to allow correct tumbling and oxygenation.

Many high end installations also incorporate Japanese matting within the static section to provide additional surface area and final polishing before discharge.

The unit is supplied without Hel-X or Japanese matting. Therefore, media must be purchased separately to suit stocking density and feeding intensity.

Aeration Requirements

To support this extended biological chamber across the 2.9 metre footprint, the 80/100 XXL Inline is pre fitted with 4 x 50mm x 300mm air bars. These ensure full oxygenation and vigorous media movement throughout the chamber.

For this model, we recommend the Charles Austen ET300 air pump to provide sufficient airflow for 250 to 300 litres of moving bed media. This high output linear diaphragm air pump delivers stable, continuous aeration required for heavy stocking levels and high feed rates.

Adequate airflow is critical in a system of this size. Proper aeration prevents dead zones, maintains vigorous media tumbling and ensures nitrifying bacteria receive the oxygen required to break down ammonia and nitrite efficiently.
