XXL treatment capacity in a pump-fed inline layout

The pump-fed Excellent 80/100 XXL Inline is for a large pond installation where the available space favours a 2.9 m-long body over a broad conventional combi. Its 850 mm width leaves a different set of options for the surrounding pipework and service aisle.

This model receives pumped dirty water and returns it by gravity. Maximum flow is 70,000 litres/hour, which is lower than the gravity-fed Inline version. The inlet pumps and clean-water return must be designed around this specific configuration.

A long drum ahead of the biological stages

The 650 × 800 mm drum separates suspended solids through a 120-micron screen. When loading changes the water level, the automatic system turns the drum and operates the internal wash pump. Rinsed material leaves through the waste route rather than remaining around the media.

The biological sections work on dissolved waste after that mechanical separation. Twin 80W high-output UV-C units help control suspended algae. All these stages depend on proper installation: a clear pond surface is not a substitute for water tests or a mature biological filter.

Media that matches this Inline model

Do not use the conventional XXL media package as an assumed fill guide for the Inline. The chambers and their intended arrangement differ. Choose an aerated moving-media loading with sufficient free movement, and keep Japanese matting in the designated static section.

For loose matting, our add-ons use our high-quality Japanese matting sheets in a 1.2 × 1 m size. Two sheets total 2.4 m² before cutting. One- and two-sheet options are additions of uncut material, not a full cartridge kit or a promise that the whole biological section is filled. A complete layout needs measured panel sizes and room to remove them later.

The air pump is separate. Its useful output is what reaches the fitted air bars at working depth, not just the nominal output on the box. Allow the media to mature under a controlled feeding load and monitor ammonia and nitrite as demand increases.

Planning a large pump-fed return

At this flow, a convenient small return pipe is not an acceptable substitute for a designed route. Consider the total return length, bends, height changes and where branches rejoin. Adjustable feed pumps help set the flow during commissioning, but cannot make a restricted return suitable.

Compare the conventional XXL Pump Fed for a shorter, wider body. If bottom drains will feed the filter before the pumps, compare the gravity-fed XXL Inline instead.

Service space and additional filtration

Support the whole 2,900 × 850 mm base and retain access to the drum, media and both UV assemblies. Plan delivery access before installation, including any doors, turns or lifting requirements on the route.

The matched XXL Inline shower adds a separate stage, not extra permitted drum flow. Its branch must be sized to its own limit. Follow the Excellent operating manual for safe maintenance and check the waste route and spray pattern as part of regular ownership.
