Filtreau Combi-2 Pump Fed Drum Filter with Moving Bed and UVC
Low-profile mechanical and biological treatment for pump-fed ponds
The pump-fed Filtreau Combi-2 puts automatic mechanical cleaning and a biological stage into a low-profile body. It is intended for water delivered by a pond circulation pump, followed by a gravity return to the pond.
At 555 mm high, the housing can be easier to accommodate than a taller combi. Its 1,005 Ă— 920 mm footprint still needs full support, and the installed position must provide enough fall for the clean return. The low height is an installation advantage, not permission to ignore the operating water level.
Three treatment jobs in one unit
First, a 120-micron drum screen removes suspended solids. A level sensor starts the automatic rinse when the screen loads, using the XL drum drive and internal pressure-cleaning pump to clear dirt into the waste channel.
The moving-bed section provides space for biological media that processes ammonia and nitrite once mature. The fitted 40W amalgam UV-C addresses suspended green-water algae. These stages are complementary: a working lamp and clean screen do not mean the biological stage is already mature.
Choosing media and aeration
Use a compatible moving-bed media grade and quantity, with enough free water for the media to circulate. The air diffuser needs an external air pump capable of supplying useful airflow at the chamber’s water depth. More media is not automatically better if it no longer moves evenly.
Keep any existing package media allowance in mind before adding further media. A separately selected matting sheet is not a substitute for moving-bed media and should not be inserted into the tumbling section without a designed static compartment.
During commissioning, introduce feeding progressively and test water quality. This is especially important when replacing an old biological filter: automatic drum cleaning starts straight away, but new bacteria take time to establish.
Stay within the pump-fed flow limit
The maximum flow is 10,000 litres/hour for the pump-fed Combi-2, with a maximum koi-pond rating of 10,000 litres. Match the circulation pump’s output after lift and friction to that limit, then check the gravity return is free-flowing.
The gravity-fed Combi-2 has a different flow limit and belongs before the circulation pump. If more pump-fed capacity is needed, compare the Combi-NEXT with internal rinse pump rather than oversupplying the smaller filter.

Maintenance and access
Leave room to remove the lid, reach the drum and service the lamp and quartz. Plan the waste pipe so it can be inspected and cleared. Isolate the electrical equipment before working on the filter and do not operate an exposed UV lamp.
Check the spray pattern, mesh and waste channel routinely. If the filter begins rinsing unusually often, inspect the flow and drainage as well as the screen instead of assuming the controller needs adjusting.
