Filtreau Excellent Mountain Tree Combi Drum 80/100 XXL – Gravity Fed
An XXL gravity-fed combi with a rotating biological stage
The Excellent Mountain Tree 80/100 XXL Gravity is a substantial combi filter built around a 650 Ă— 800 mm mechanical drum and a specialist biological-media arrangement. It brings automatic waste removal, rotating biological treatment and two 80W high-output UV-C units into a large, coordinated system.
The body measures 2,760 Ă— 1,515 Ă— 1,005 mm. Delivery access, full base support and service space need to be part of the design from the start. This is not a unit to select only after the filter room has been built.
Mechanical capacity and controlled cleaning
Maximum gravity-fed flow is 80,000 litres/hour. Balance the pond supply and clean-side pumps to keep operating levels within the intended range. Confirm the connection arrangement for the supplied unit before building the manifold. The 80/100 name does not override that flow limit.
The 120-micron screen catches suspended solids. A level change runs the drum drive and internal wash pump, cleaning the mesh through the spray bar and discharging waste separately. On a system of this size, keeping the waste route clear is an essential part of reliable operation.
The XXL biological arrangement
The specialist setup uses Mountain Tree Lotus Root Bacteria House media and Spiral Filter Mat, with Hel-X also forming part of the XXL media arrangement. That does not make the whole filter equivalent to a conventional loose-media combi: the rotating stage and its intended media positions still need to be preserved.
Do not add a generic cartridge or loose-sheet bundle automatically. Work from the exact supplied configuration when replacing or supplementing media, and leave access for inspection of the biological drive as well as the mechanical drum drive.
The six fitted air bars require a suitable external air supply. Size it for delivered air at working depth and for the complete biological setup. Mature the system gradually and test ammonia and nitrite; a large filter still cannot provide established biological performance immediately after filling.
Twin UV-C for the larger circuit
Two 80W high-output UV-C units help tackle suspended green-water algae. Each needs the correct lamp and quartz components and enough clearance for servicing. They work alongside the biological media rather than removing the need for it.
Allow margin for stocking and feeding within the maximum 80,000-litre koi-pond rating. A lightly stocked ornamental pond and a densely stocked koi pond of the same volume place different demands on biological filtration.

Choosing and maintaining the installation
Compare the 50/70 Mountain Tree for a smaller broad-body arrangement. The conventional Excellent XXL Gravity offers a different biological-media approach and should be compared on the full package rather than body size alone.
Provide a safe service aisle, access to both UV assemblies and a waste route that can be inspected. Use the Excellent safety guidance with the exact Mountain Tree instructions, and keep the screen, nozzles and rotating biological components accessible throughout ownership.
