The Filtreau Combi-2 Gravity Drum Filter is a compact, professional-grade filtration system designed for gravity-fed koi ponds and ornamental ponds up to 30m³. It combines automatic mechanical drum filtration, a moving-bed biological chamber and integrated 40W High Output UV-C clarification in one efficient, low-maintenance unit.
Designed specifically for gravity-fed installations using bottom drains or skimmers, this system allows water to enter the filter naturally at pond level. This improves hydraulic stability and ensures solid waste is removed before it reaches any return pump or downstream equipment.
At the centre of the unit is a Ø400 x 430mm stainless steel drum driven by an industrial 130Nm SPG XL motor. The upgraded high-torque motor delivers consistent rotation, ensuring reliable cleaning performance even under heavier debris loads.
When the stainless steel float switch detects reduced flow caused by dirt accumulation, the cleaning cycle activates automatically. The internal 5 bar rinse pump powers high-pressure spray nozzles, flushing debris directly to drain and keeping the drum screen clear without daily manual intervention.
Filtration Performance and Biological Stability
By removing solids at source, the Combi-2 significantly reduces organic breakdown within the system. This helps minimise ammonia spikes and supports more stable water parameters, particularly in well-stocked koi ponds.
After mechanical separation, water flows into the integrated moving-bed chamber. The biological bay holds approximately 100 litres of floating media, creating a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonise and thrive.
The media continuously circulates under aeration from the 9 inch diffuser plate, preventing channel formation and maximising oxygen exposure. This improves nitrification efficiency and ensures reliable biological conversion of ammonia and nitrite.
An integrated 40W High Output UV-C immersion unit operating at 253.7nm suppresses algae spores and harmful microorganisms. The result is clearer water, improved fish health and reduced reliance on chemical treatments throughout the season.
