Yellow Loosestrife ‘Sunburst’ | Lysimachia Christinae ‘Sunburst’
Vibrant Golden Foliage and Bright Yellow Flowers for Pond Margins and Water Gardens
A Colourful Trailing Pond Plant Perfect for Softening Edges and Brightening Damp Areas
Yellow Loosestrife ‘Sunburst’ (Lysimachia christinae ‘Sunburst’) is a stunning low growing marginal pond plant that combines eye catching golden variegated foliage with masses of cheerful yellow flowers. Ideal for pond margins, bog gardens, container ponds, stream edges and damp borders, this versatile perennial provides season long colour while creating valuable habitat for wildlife.
Unlike many pond plants that are grown purely for their flowers, ‘Sunburst’ offers year round visual interest thanks to its striking foliage. The leaves emerge with vibrant golden yellow tones blended with fresh green highlights, creating a bright carpet of colour around the pond edge. Even when not in flower, the foliage remains highly decorative and helps illuminate darker corners of the garden.
From May through to July, clusters of bright golden yellow star shaped flowers appear amongst the foliage. These nectar rich blooms attract bees, hoverflies and other pollinating insects, helping to support local biodiversity. The flowers contrast beautifully against the colourful foliage, creating a display that immediately draws attention.
Its creeping and trailing growth habit makes it particularly useful for softening hard pond edges, disguising pond liners and allowing foliage to gently spill over rocks, baskets and containers. It can also be used as attractive ground cover in consistently damp areas where many traditional garden plants struggle.
Yellow Loosestrife ‘Sunburst’ thrives in moist soil, boggy conditions and shallow water up to around 10cm deep. It performs well in both full sun and partial shade, although the brightest foliage colour is usually achieved in sunnier positions. Its spreading habit helps suppress weeds while creating dense cover that offers shelter for frogs, newts and beneficial insects.
Fully hardy throughout the UK, this easy to grow perennial returns reliably each spring and requires very little maintenance. It is suitable for both small garden ponds and larger wildlife ponds, making it one of the most versatile marginal plants available.
Whether planted around a formal pond, natural wildlife pond or container water garden, Yellow Loosestrife ‘Sunburst’ provides an outstanding combination of foliage colour, flowers and wildlife value.
