High Capacity Biological Filtration for XL Drum Systems

The Oase ProfiClear Premium XL Moving Bed Module – Pond Pads is a dedicated biological filtration chamber designed to integrate seamlessly with the ProfiClear Premium XL Drum Filter system. It delivers high capacity nitrification for large koi ponds, ornamental ponds and commercial aquatic installations. As a result, it supports stable and predictable water quality in demanding environments.

Positioned directly after the mechanical drum stage, this module focuses entirely on biological filtration. Therefore, it significantly reduces ammonia, ammonium and nitrite before water returns to the pond. In heavily stocked systems, this stage becomes critical. Without strong biological filtration, water stability quickly declines.

The module is suitable for ornamental ponds up to 530,000 litres and koi ponds up to 100,000 litres. Consequently, it is ideal for estate lakes and large private koi ponds. Moreover, it provides the biological strength required in professional filtration builds.

Advanced PondPads Biological Filtration

This configuration includes 60 litres of Oase PondPads biological media. These structured biological pads provide a protected surface area for beneficial bacteria colonisation. As a result, they promote consistent breakdown of ammonia and nitrite in large scale systems.

Unlike fluidised moving media systems, the PondPads operate as a fixed bed biological chamber. Therefore, bacterial colonies remain stable rather than constantly agitated. In turn, this supports predictable nitrification performance. In addition, the fixed structure reduces media abrasion and long term wear.

If required, the module can alternatively be configured to hold up to 100 litres of Hel X media. Consequently, installers can adapt the biological stage to suit stocking density. Furthermore, this flexibility allows different filtration strategies to be implemented where needed.

Modular XL System Integration

The Oase ProfiClear Premium XL Moving Bed Module – Pond Pads forms part of the wider ProfiClear Premium XL modular range. It connects directly to the XL Drum Filter and, where necessary, can be expanded with additional chambers. As a result, total biological capacity can increase alongside fish load.

Furthermore, the module integrates with the Oase Easy Garden Control system. Therefore, installers can monitor performance digitally via the Oase Control app. Because of this modular design, large koi ponds and commercial systems can be scaled confidently and efficiently.

Oase ProfiClear Premium XL Moving Bed Module – Pond Pads should be chosen as part of the complete air system, not just by litres per minute. Airline length, airline bore, diffuser depth, manifold taps and back pressure all affect the real airflow that reaches the pond or filter. A well matched aeration system runs more quietly, puts less strain on the pump and gives more dependable oxygen support.

• Use suitable airline size for the pump output and distance involved.
• Keep the air pump dry, ventilated and protected from flooding.
• Spread airflow across multiple diffusers on larger ponds where possible.
• Check diaphragms, filters and diffusers during routine servicing.

For koi ponds, moving bed filters and warm weather aeration, consistent airflow is often more useful than simply oversizing the pump. Balanced diffuser placement gives better circulation and helps avoid stagnant areas.
