A compact pump, UVC and pressure-filter package for smaller garden ponds

Pontec PondoPress sets are ready-matched pond filtration packages built around a pressurised canister filter. Each model includes the filter, bio-mechanical media, an integral UVC clarifier, a solids-handling pump, hose and the principal connections needed to create a working circuit. They are a useful choice where a conventional gravity-return box would be difficult to hide or where the cleaned water needs to feed a modest raised return, stream or waterfall.

Because the filter remains sealed while it is running, it can be partly buried so that only the service head needs to remain accessible. The cleaning handle compresses the internal foams without requiring the wet media to be lifted out for every routine clean. Periodic strip-downs and seasonal checks are still required, but day-to-day maintenance is considerably tidier than with a basic open box.

Choose the model from the real pond, not just the number in its name

Those figures are the manufacturer’s headline capacities. Real ponds are affected by fish load, feeding, direct sun, leaf fall, water temperature, pipe length and the height to the return. For a koi pond or a heavily stocked pond, allow substantially more filtration than the ornamental-pond figure suggests. Ask us before ordering if the pond is close to a model limit.

How the PondoPress system cleans the water

The submerged pump carries pond water and debris up to 4mm into the sealed filter. The UVC exposes suspended green-water algae to ultraviolet light so the affected cells clump and can be trapped more readily. Coarse and finer foam layers then provide mechanical filtration while their large internal surface supports the beneficial bacteria responsible for converting toxic fish waste.

The outlet water may be routed to a suitable watercourse or return, but the usable lift and flow will always be lower than the pump’s headline figure once hose friction, bends and elevation are included. Keep hose runs short, use the supplied bore unless the instructions specify otherwise and avoid tight fittings that waste pressure.

Installation and maintenance points that matter

• Position the pump where it can draw representative pond water without sitting directly in deep sludge.
• Keep the filter service head, cleaning handle and connections fully accessible even if the canister is partly buried.
• Never operate the UVC without water flowing through the unit and never look directly at an illuminated UVC lamp.
• Clean foams in pond water when possible so the biological colony is not exposed to chlorinated tap water.
• Replace tired, permanently compressed or crumbling media with the correct genuine filter spares.
• Isolate mains equipment safely before opening, cleaning or moving any part of the system.

Frequently asked questions

Can a PondoPress be buried?

The canister can be concealed partly in the ground, but the complete service head, connections and cleaning mechanism must remain accessible. Do not install it where flooding, soil movement or standing water can affect electrical parts.

Can it run a waterfall?

It can feed a modest raised return or watercourse. The actual result depends on vertical lift and pipe losses, so check the full route rather than relying on the pump’s maximum-flow number.

Is the pump included?

Yes. These are complete sets with pump, pressure filter, integral UVC, hose and main connections. They should not be confused with a filter-only product.
