A matched pump, UVC and multi-stage box filter in one package

Pontec MultiClear Sets are complete entry-level filtration systems for smaller garden ponds. Instead of choosing the pump, filter, UVC and hose separately, each package combines a solids-handling PondoVario pump with a MultiClear flow-through filter, an integral UVC clarifier, three metres of hose and the required connections.

The design is intentionally easy to understand. The pump sends dirty pond water into the UVC and multi-chamber filter; the water passes through four different media stages; then it returns to the pond by gravity through the large outlet. The set is a particularly sensible first system for a new ornamental pond where reliable component matching matters more than advanced electronic control.

Compare the three complete sets

Pontec’s capacity figures assume appropriate installation and maintenance. Fish stocking, food, sunlight, leaves, shallow warm water and a long pipe run all increase the burden. We recommend leaving useful headroom rather than selecting the smallest set whose number matches the calculated litres.

What happens inside the filter?

The included pump can pass coarse debris up to 4mm into the system. The UVC helps the filter capture suspended algae responsible for green water. Japanese matting collects larger particles, coarse and fine foams progressively remove smaller material, and biological surface media supports the bacteria that process dissolved fish waste. Partition walls control the route through the chambers so each stage contributes.

MultiClear or PondoPress?

Choose MultiClear where an above-water-level box and gravity return are practical. The media is visible, the flow path is easy to understand and servicing is direct. Choose the Pontec PondoPress range where the filter must be partly concealed or the cleaned water needs to reach a modest raised watercourse. PondoPress is sealed; MultiClear is not.

Good maintenance without damaging the biology

• Run pond filtration continuously during the active season unless the product instructions require otherwise.
• Inspect the box, outlet and pollutant indicator rather than waiting for visible deterioration in the pond.
• Clean media in batches with pond water so some mature bacteria remain undisturbed.
• Do not scrub biological media sterile or use household detergents.
• Fit the correct replacement filter foams when the originals lose their structure.
• Isolate all electrical equipment before handling the pump, UVC or filter.

Frequently asked questions

Is everything needed included?

The main system components are included: filter, integral UVC, matched pump, three metres of hose and connections. You still need a safe outdoor electrical supply and may need additional return pipe or installation fittings for the site.

Can the filter sit below pond level?

No. The outlet returns by gravity, so the filter must be high enough for water to fall freely back to the pond.

Which size should I choose?

Use the lower fish-pond figure if fish are present and leave further headroom for koi, heavy feeding, direct sun or difficult pipework. We are happy to check the selection from a sketch and pond dimensions.
