This is a serious filtration package for a large garden pond or koi pond where you want automatic mechanical cleaning, dependable biological filtration, strong circulation, UVC clarification and the correct air pump supplied together. It brings the four main pieces of equipment into one carefully matched package, so you are not left trying to work out which pump, UVC or air pump should be used with the filter.

At the heart of the system is the Oase ProfiClear Premium Compact L pump fed drum filter. It is paired with the Oase AquaMax Eco Premium 21000, your choice of Bitron Eco 120 watt, 180 watt or 240 watt UVC, and the Oase AquaOxy 5000 air pump.

Complete kit saving: The base package costs £5,784.48, saving £334.68 against the current individual prices. The 180 watt and 240 watt selections replace the included 120 watt UVC and retain a worthwhile package saving.

Pipework, flexible hose, valves, airline, electrical installation and other site specific fittings are not included. These parts depend on the distance, lift, return layout and position of the equipment. Keeping them separate avoids charging you for pipework that may be the wrong size or length for your pond.

Why these components work well together

A pump fed drum filter only works properly when the circulation pump, filter capacity, return pipework and UVC are planned as one system. The AquaMax Eco Premium 21000 provides a strong nominal flow without pushing the Compact L far beyond its stated working range.

In a real installation, the actual delivered flow will be reduced by lift, hose length, bends, valves and the UVC. The Bitron Eco treats the circulating water before it reaches the filter, while the AquaOxy 5000 supplies the biological chamber with a generous reserve of air.

The result is a system designed to remove suspended waste automatically, support the bacteria responsible for breaking down ammonia and nitrite, reduce green water and maintain useful water movement throughout the pond. It is a much more complete starting point than purchasing the filter alone.

Inside the package

Oase ProfiClear Premium Compact L Pump Fed OC drum filter

The Compact L is the main filtration unit. Pond water is pumped into the filter and passes through a fine 60 micron drum screen. Solid waste is held on the inside of the screen rather than being allowed to settle in the biological chamber. As the screen becomes dirty, the control system starts an automatic cleaning cycle and the integral rinse system washes the collected waste to the drain.

After the mechanical stage, water passes into the moving bed biological chamber. The filter is supplied with 60 litres of Hel-X 13 media. With the included AquaOxy air pump connected and adjusted correctly, the media remains in constant movement and provides a protected surface for beneficial bacteria.

The filter must sit on a strong, level base with proper access for the lid, drum, control system and waste connection. For a pump fed installation, Oase specifies an installation height of approximately 37 cm above the pond water level so the cleaned water can return by gravity.

Oase AquaMax Eco Premium 21000 filter pump

The AquaMax Eco Premium 21000 moves water from the pond, through the selected Bitron Eco UVC and into the Compact L. Its maximum quoted output is 21,000 litres per hour with a maximum head height of 6 metres. The pump uses up to 175 watts and includes an Oase Control connection for compatible control equipment.

The quoted 21,000 litres per hour is the pump’s free flow figure. It is not the flow you should expect at the filter. Every metre of lift and every restriction reduces delivery. That is useful here because the Compact L is rated for a maximum working flow of about 20,000 litres per hour.

The completed installation should still be checked and balanced rather than assuming the nameplate figure is the actual flow.

Selectable Oase Bitron Eco UVC

The Bitron Eco clarifier treats the water before it enters the drum filter. Its ultraviolet light helps control the free floating algae responsible for green water, allowing the filter to remove the affected particles. The range also includes an automatic bypass, operating hours meter and digital temperature display.

The correct UVC is influenced by pond volume, sunlight, water depth, fish stocking, feeding and how clear you expect the water to remain. That is why this kit gives you three sensible choices rather than forcing every pond to use the same unit.

• Bitron Eco 120 watt: included in the base package and a strong choice for many correctly sized installations
• Bitron Eco 180 watt: add £120 for more UVC capacity on larger, sunnier or more demanding ponds
• Bitron Eco 240 watt: add £300 for the highest UVC output in this package

Choosing a larger UVC does not increase the mechanical or biological capacity of the Compact L. It gives the system more ultraviolet treatment capacity, which can be valuable where green water pressure is particularly high.

Oase AquaOxy 5000 pond air pump

The AquaOxy 5000 supplies the air needed to keep the Compact L’s moving bed active. Good aeration keeps the Hel-X media turning, maintains oxygen around the bacteria and helps the biological stage work consistently during warm weather and periods of heavier feeding.

The pump has a nominal output of 5,000 litres of air per hour. Oase quotes approximately 90 litres per minute at 0.5 metres, 80 litres per minute at 1 metre and 70 litres per minute at 1.5 metres. Actual airflow depends on airline length, connection size, back pressure and how the air is distributed.

Pond size and real world capacity

Oase gives the Compact L a headline maximum of up to 120,000 litres on a pond without fish. That is not a realistic koi pond figure. The manufacturer’s koi application figure is much lower, at around 30,000 litres, because fish waste and feeding place far more demand on the biological stage.

Even those figures are only a starting point. The right filter size depends on fish numbers, expected adult fish size, daily food, sunlight, debris, turnover, temperature and how much spare capacity you want. A lightly stocked ornamental pond and a heavily fed koi pond of the same volume are completely different filtration jobs. If you are unsure, send us the pond dimensions, fish stock and a few photographs before ordering.

Installation layout

1. The AquaMax Eco Premium 21000 draws water from the pond.
2. Water passes through the chosen Bitron Eco UVC.
3. The treated water enters the Compact L pump fed drum filter.
4. The automatic drum screen removes suspended solids and sends cleaning waste to drain.
5. Water moves through the aerated Hel-X biological chamber.
6. Cleaned water returns to the pond by gravity through one or both DN110 outlets.

A proper layout should allow for a level filter base, gravity return fall, safe waste disposal, isolation valves, unions for servicing, frost protection where appropriate and separate safe electrical supplies. Keep the control unit and air pump accessible and follow the Oase installation instructions for all equipment.

Commissioning and routine ownership

Once the equipment is installed, check the delivered water flow rather than relying only on the pump’s maximum figure. Confirm that both gravity returns run freely, the waste route is secure and the drum completes a full cleaning cycle. Adjust the AquaOxy connection until the Hel-X media moves evenly across the biological chamber.

During the first few weeks, the biological media is still maturing. Feed carefully, monitor ammonia and nitrite and do not assume clear water automatically means mature filtration.

Routine ownership includes checking the drum screen and rinse nozzles, emptying or flushing the waste route, inspecting the pump intake, replacing UVC lamps at the recommended interval and servicing air pump components as required.

Is this a genuinely complete filtration package?

It includes the four main pieces of equipment: Compact L drum filter, AquaMax Eco Premium 21000 circulation pump, a selected Bitron Eco UVC and AquaOxy 5000 air pump. Site specific hose, pipework, valves, airline, fittings and electrical installation remain separate.

Which Bitron Eco UVC should I choose?

The 120 watt model is the standard choice. The 180 watt and 240 watt upgrades provide more UVC capacity for larger, sunnier or more demanding ponds. Pond volume alone is not enough to choose accurately, so ask us if you are unsure.

Why is the 21,000 L/h pump used with a 20,000 L/h filter?

The pump’s 21,000 L/h figure is measured at free flow. Hose, UVC, lift, valves and fittings reduce the delivered flow. The final installation should still be balanced and checked so the filter is not overloaded.

Does the kit include an air pump?

Yes. The Oase AquaOxy 5000 is included for the Compact L biological chamber. Airline and site specific fittings are not included.

Can this filter be used on a koi pond?

Yes, but koi pond sizing must be conservative. Oase’s maximum fishless pond figure should never be treated as a koi capacity. Fish numbers, feeding and the level of spare capacity required all matter.
