In-Lite SUB IP68 12V Underwater Pond Spotlight

The In-Lite SUB is a dedicated IP68 underwater spotlight for illuminating ponds, water features and submerged details from within the water. Its broad warm-white beam, weighted adjustable form and corrosion-resistant construction distinguish it from an ordinary garden spotlight that is merely splash resistant.

The current SUB uses a 3W light source producing 293 lumens with a practical light reach of about five metres in suitable clear water. It can reveal moving water, stone, planting shelves and fish after dark, while also making an unfenced pond edge easier to perceive from the surrounding garden.

Where this In-Lite spotlight works best

This fitting is particularly well suited to:

• lighting a pond or water feature from beneath the surface
• highlighting submerged stone, planting shelves or a water blade
• creating movement and reflections across the water after dark
• making the presence and edge of a pond more apparent in the evening
• viewing fish and aquatic planting in clear water without a visible dry-land spotlight

Good landscape lighting is usually layered. Combine a small number of carefully aimed spotlights with path, wall, recessed or planting lights rather than relying on one style of fitting everywhere. The aim is to reveal the shape of the garden and make routes comfortable to use without making the whole space uniformly bright.

Position the beam before fixing the cable route

Water clarity determines the real result. In a clear ornamental pond, the wide beam can travel much further than it will through green or sediment-laden water. If the pond is deep, use a stable shelf or platform rather than automatically placing the fitting at the very bottom. Aim across or up through the feature, not directly towards the main seating position, and check that routine pond maintenance can be completed without snagging the cable.

We recommend testing the proposed position after dark with the cable still loose. View the light from the house, the main route through the garden and the principal seating area. Once the angle is right, mark the position and finish the cable route. This small trial prevents the most common problem with garden spotlights: a technically correct installation that shines into somebody’s eyes.

Installation and mounting

SUB is supplied fully assembled with a ten-metre fixture cable. That long lead is intentional: the EASY-LOCK connection to the main 12V cable should be made outside the water. In-Lite states that the fitting can be positioned at a maximum depth of three metres. Secure the route so fish, maintenance equipment and pumps cannot pull the cable, but do not make the fitting impossible to retrieve for cleaning or seasonal adjustment.

Control glare and protect the light effect

Underwater glare can be surprisingly strong because the surface reflects the source from different viewing angles. Aim SUB away from the terrace or main window and use the water, stone and planting to conceal the fitting. A gentle diagonal beam often reveals more texture and movement than pointing the light vertically at the surface.

Connect it to the In-Lite low-voltage system

Connect the fitting to genuine In-Lite CBL system cable using the supplied EASY-LOCK. If the attached fixture cable cannot conveniently reach the main cable, use an In-Lite CBL-EXT CORD rather than improvising an unapproved joint.

The fitting must not be connected directly to the mains. It requires a compatible In-Lite transformer or SMART HUB. When sizing the transformer, add the VA load of every proposed light; do not total only the wattage. Leave a sensible capacity margin if the scheme may be expanded later and distribute the connected load appropriately between the available cable outputs.

Light quality, outdoor durability and maintenance

The corrosion-resistant body is designed for underwater use, but the lens may still need occasional cleaning where algae or mineral deposits reduce output. Isolate the system before retrieving or cleaning the fitting and avoid abrasive products that could mark the lens or coating.

Keep the lens clean and make sure mulch, leaves and new plant growth do not cover the fitting or block the beam. Revisit the aiming as trees and shrubs grow. A well-designed In-Lite scheme is easy to adapt: fittings can be moved or redirected without rebuilding the whole cable network.

Choosing the right model

Use SUB when the fitting itself must be continuously submerged. To illuminate marginal plants, rocks or the pond edge from dry ground, use MINI SCOPE or SCOPE instead. Those IP67 garden spotlights are suitable for outdoor exposure but are not substitutes for an IP68 underwater fitting.
