In-Lite SCOPE 12V Garden Spotlight
The In-Lite SCOPE is a compact but powerful 12V garden spotlight designed to pick out the features that give a garden its character after dark. Its focused 25-degree beam reaches up to approximately eight metres, making it a particularly good choice for taller trees, sculptural planting, statues, architectural details, hedges and sections of a house or garden wall.
The dark, high-quality aluminium body is intentionally discreet. During the day it can be tucked into planting without becoming a visual distraction; after dark, the fitting disappears and attention remains on the illuminated tree, texture or structure. This is one of the reasons we prefer a properly positioned spotlight to simply flooding a whole garden with flat, uniform light.
Focused light for trees, facades and garden features
SCOPE produces 271 lumens through a relatively narrow beam. That combination gives it noticeably more reach than MINI SCOPE, while remaining more concentrated than the broad-beam BIG SCOPE. It works particularly well for:
- uplighting small and medium-sized specimen trees;
- drawing attention to trunks, stems and the underside of a canopy;
- lighting statues, large pots and sculptural garden features;
- highlighting brick, stone, timber and textured facade details;
- creating depth behind borders and hedges;
- adding a controlled pool of light without illuminating the entire surrounding area.
For the most natural result on a tree, avoid placing one fitting immediately against the trunk and pointing it straight upwards. Moving the light further away and aiming it into the crown reveals more branch structure. On a broader tree, two or three fittings from different positions usually give better depth and fewer harsh shadows than one excessively bright light.
High colour rendering for plants and natural materials
The LED has a colour rendering index of CRI 91. CRI describes how accurately colours appear under an artificial light source: a higher figure means foliage, flowers, bark, brick and stone remain much closer to their natural daytime colours. This matters in a planted garden, where a low-quality LED can make greens look grey and flatten the subtle differences between materials.
The 3100K warm-white light is warm enough to create an inviting evening atmosphere without turning planting excessively yellow. It is well suited to contemporary and traditional gardens and combines naturally with the other warm-white fittings in the In-Lite system.
Spike-mounted or fixed to a solid surface
SCOPE arrives with its ground spike fitted, so it can be pushed into soil, gravel or a planted border and adjusted towards the intended feature. It can also be changed into a surface-mounted bracket light: remove the spike and use the supplied screw, wall plug and cable grommet to secure it to a suitable timber, brick or stone surface.
This gives considerably more flexibility than a spike-only garden light. It can be positioned in a border, fixed beneath a pergola, mounted on a wall or attached to a suitable timber structure. Whenever it is installed, leave the fitting and its connections accessible so the beam can be adjusted as planting matures and the light can be serviced without disturbing the finished garden.
Control glare and raise the beam above planting
A successful lighting scheme should reveal the feature, not force you to look directly into the LED. Where SCOPE is visible from a path, terrace or window, fit SHIELD 2 to screen the source from the main viewing direction. For wall or ceiling applications, KILLFLASH 2 uses a honeycomb structure to reduce direct glare. KILLFLASH should not be used on an upward-facing ground installation because water could remain trapped in the fitting.
If foliage interrupts the beam, use the fixed 350mm RISER 1 or adjustable 350–530mm RISER 2. SCOPE can also form part of an elevated tree-mounted arrangement using the compatible In-Lite BRACE and BRACE BAND system.
Connect SCOPE to the In-Lite 12V system
Every SCOPE includes an In-Lite EASY-LOCK connector and has a 0.6m fixture cable. EASY-LOCK connects the fitting at the chosen position on genuine In-Lite CBL system cable; the fitting cable then joins through the push-fit mini-connector. If 0.6m does not comfortably reach the intended fitting position, use an In-Lite CBL-EXT CORD to extend it by up to three metres.
Do not connect the fitting directly to a mains supply. It must be operated through a compatible In-Lite transformer. When sizing that transformer, add the VA load of every fitting on the proposed circuit—not simply their wattage. SCOPE consumes 3W but contributes 5.2 VA to the transformer calculation. The combined VA must remain within the transformer’s rated capacity, with a sensible allowance for future additions.
Built for long-term outdoor use
The aluminium fitting is rated IP67 for outdoor installation and the integral LED has a stated service-life indication of approximately 25,000 hours. In-Lite provides a five-year guarantee when the fitting is installed and used as part of the genuine In-Lite system. The LED is integrated, so there is no conventional replaceable bulb to choose or fit.

Is SCOPE the right spotlight for your garden?
Choose SCOPE when you want a focused warm-white beam with useful reach but do not need the very long, tight output of BIG SCOPE NARROW. MINI SCOPE is better for low planting and smaller features; BIG SCOPE is better for broad canopies; SCOPE sits between them as the versatile choice for trees, facades and features requiring a controlled eight-metre beam.
