In-Lite MICRO SCOPE Compact 12V Garden Spotlight

The In-Lite MICRO SCOPE is the smallest spotlight in the SCOPE family. Its 27mm body and slim ground pin make it remarkably easy to lose among foliage, gravel or the planting in a large container. Once darkness falls, the fitting all but disappears and the light picks out the leaves, stems or small feature above it.

This is a deliberately subtle light rather than a miniature floodlight. Its 44-lumen output, 35-degree beam and practical reach of about two metres are best suited to low planting, small shrubs, textured grasses, pots and modest garden details. Used in the right position, it gives a much more considered result than trying to light every feature with the same larger spotlight.

Where this In-Lite spotlight works best

This fitting is particularly well suited to:

• hiding inside a large planter to illuminate leaves and stems from below
• adding a small accent beneath ferns, grasses and low evergreen planting
• drawing attention to a compact sculpture, decorative pot or garden detail
• creating low-level depth at the front of a border without a visible fitting
• layering several gentle pools of light through a planted area

Good landscape lighting is usually layered. Combine a small number of carefully aimed spotlights with path, wall, recessed or planting lights rather than relying on one style of fitting everywhere. The aim is to reveal the shape of the garden and make routes comfortable to use without making the whole space uniformly bright.

Position the beam before fixing the cable route

Place MICRO SCOPE close enough for the two-metre beam to reach the feature, but avoid pushing it directly against a stem or wall. A little distance allows the beam to open and gives the leaves or texture room to cast natural shadows. In a planter, test the position after dark before burying or dressing the cable; the smallest change in angle can decide whether the result feels soft and intentional or simply catches the underside of one leaf.

We recommend testing the proposed position after dark with the cable still loose. View the light from the house, the main route through the garden and the principal seating area. Once the angle is right, mark the position and finish the cable route. This small trial prevents the most common problem with garden spotlights: a technically correct installation that shines into somebody’s eyes.

Installation and mounting

The fitting is supplied with its ground pin for soft ground such as soil, gravel or a planted container. In-Lite also states that it can be secured to a hard surface with the compatible bracket and screw arrangement. Its compact size is the main advantage, so keep the fitting accessible for final adjustment but conceal it behind foliage or the edge of a pot wherever possible.

Control glare and protect the light effect

MICRO SCOPE has no large shroud to hide a badly placed light source, so positioning matters. Aim the beam away from the normal approach to the garden and from the principal seating position. When several are used in a border, vary the spacing and angle slightly; a perfectly regular row tends to look more like functional path lighting than natural planting light.

Connect it to the In-Lite low-voltage system

Connect the fitting to genuine In-Lite CBL system cable using the supplied EASY-LOCK. If the attached fixture cable cannot conveniently reach the main cable, use an In-Lite CBL-EXT CORD rather than improvising an unapproved joint.

The fitting must not be connected directly to the mains. It requires a compatible In-Lite transformer or SMART HUB. When sizing the transformer, add the VA load of every proposed light; do not total only the wattage. Leave a sensible capacity margin if the scheme may be expanded later and distribute the connected load appropriately between the available cable outputs.

Light quality, outdoor durability and maintenance

The integrated LED has a stated service-life indication of approximately 25,000 hours. Its IP67 construction is intended for exposed outdoor use, while the high CRI helps foliage and natural materials retain convincing colour after dark.

Keep the lens clean and make sure mulch, leaves and new plant growth do not cover the fitting or block the beam. Revisit the aiming as trees and shrubs grow. A well-designed In-Lite scheme is easy to adapt: fittings can be moved or redirected without rebuilding the whole cable network.

Choosing the right model

Choose MINI SCOPE when the feature is larger, the reach needs to extend to around three metres, or you want access to the dedicated SHIELD, KILLFLASH and RISER accessories. Move up to SCOPE for taller trees, facades and features that need a much stronger, longer-reaching beam.
