This is the larger Nexus Titanium package for koi ponds that need more water flow, more biological capacity and more room for future stock than the Nexus 220 can comfortably provide. It includes the Nexus 320 Titanium, a genuine lid at no extra charge, a Varipump 20000 and an Airtech 95, with optional Airtech 130 and additional 50 litre K+ media upgrades.

The package brings together all the principal filtration equipment while leaving the bottom drains, pressure pipe, returns and valves to be designed for the pond rather than added as a generic plumbing bundle.

How the Nexus 320 Titanium works

Mechanical waste capture

The central Eazy chamber uses 20 litres of K1 Micro to trap suspended waste. During cleaning, air vigorously agitates the static media and the dirty water is discharged. Removing solids here protects the biological chamber and keeps routine cleaning straightforward.

Large moving-bed biological stage

The outer chamber is supplied with 100 litres of K+ media and can hold up to 300 litres in total. Constant aeration keeps the media moving, bringing pond water and oxygen to the bacteria responsible for converting ammonia and nitrite. The larger chamber is the main reason to choose the 320 when a growing koi collection or high feeding would leave little reserve in a Nexus 220.

Integrated 110 watt UVC

Two 55 watt Titanium-enhanced lamps are built into the outlet area, giving 110 watts in total. This provides substantial green-water control without placing a separate UVC body in the external pipe run. Quartz cleaning and lamp replacement remain necessary for reliable output.

Varipump 20000 with controlled headroom

The filter’s stated maximum flow is 13,000 litres per hour. The Varipump 20000 is deliberately larger because lift and pipe resistance reduce the delivered flow. It must be commissioned and turned down so the measured flow through the Nexus never exceeds 13,000 litres per hour. Headroom is useful; uncontrolled excess flow is not.

Air pump and media upgrades explained

The Airtech 95 is included in the base package. Choose the Airtech 130 where the airline is long, the installation has additional resistance or the planned media volume needs stronger movement. The optional media upgrade adds 50 litres beyond the 100 litres already supplied.

Only add media when the expected feeding load justifies it and the chamber can keep the complete bed moving. After any upgrade, check for dead areas, confirm dissolved oxygen and monitor ammonia and nitrite. Static media in a moving-bed chamber does not provide the benefit the extra volume was intended to deliver.

Pond size and layout

Evolution Aqua rates the Nexus 320 Titanium for ponds up to 34,000 litres. Size more conservatively for heavily stocked koi, warm water and high summer feeding. The mature fish mass and daily food are better guides to biological demand than the pond volume on its own.

The Nexus 320 can be gravity fed or pump fed. A well-designed gravity-fed bottom-drain system is a common choice on new koi ponds because solids reach the filter before the pump and the return pump handles cleaned water. A pump-fed arrangement can suit an existing pond, provided the filter sits high enough for a reliable gravity return.

Installation planning

• Confirm gravity-fed or pump-fed operation before ordering pipe and valves
• Use appropriately sized pressure pipe and flexible rubber connectors
• Fit serviceable isolation valves around the main equipment
• Set the Varipump from measured flow and keep the final output at or below 13,000 L/h
• Site the air pump in a dry, ventilated position and route the airline without kinks
• Provide an accessible waste route and enough filter-bay space for cleaning and lid removal

Pipework and fittings are not included. Leaving them out prevents the kit price being inflated by parts that may not suit the installation.

Cleaning and long-term performance

Clean the Eazy chamber often enough that captured solids do not remain in the pond water for long periods. Watch the outer media chamber after any change to air or media; the whole bed should move evenly. Keep a routine for UVC lamps, quartz sleeves, air filters, pump cleaning and waste-line inspection.

A new biological stage matures over time. Test ammonia and nitrite, increase feeding gradually and keep established media online during a major filter change wherever practical.

Common questions

Why is a 20,000 L/h pump included with a 13,000 L/h filter?

The larger controllable pump provides capacity for lift and pipe losses. It must be turned down using measured flow so the filter limit is not exceeded.

Does the Titanium model include UVC?

Yes. Two built-in 55 watt lamps provide 110 watts of UVC output.

When is the extra 50 litres of media useful?

When the planned feeding and fish load need more biological surface and the air supply can keep the full media bed moving.
