The Burtons BD 150 Combi Pond Drum Filter is a compact all in one filtration system designed for small koi ponds, quarantine tanks and specialist fish systems. Manufactured in the UK by Burtons Aquatics, the BD 150 Combi combines automatic drum filtration with a built in biological chamber. As a result, it provides both mechanical and biological filtration within a single unit.

This design removes solid waste before it breaks down in the pond while also supporting beneficial bacteria that convert harmful ammonia and nitrite. Consequently, the system helps maintain stable water quality and clear pond water with minimal maintenance.

The filter uses a precision 60 micron stainless steel drum screen to capture fine debris such as fish waste, uneaten food and suspended solids. When the screen becomes dirty, the filter automatically initiates a cleaning cycle. During this process the drum rotates while spray jets wash the screen clean and flush waste to drain.

Unlike traditional filter systems that require manual cleaning, the BD 150 Combi operates automatically. Therefore, mechanical filtration continues running efficiently without interruption.

In addition, this combi unit includes a large biological chamber capable of holding up to 100 litres of moving bed media. This creates an ideal environment for beneficial bacteria to break down ammonia and nitrite, helping to maintain a healthy pond ecosystem.

Supplied with Free Biological Media

One major advantage of purchasing the Burtons BD 150 Combi from us is that we supply the unit with a total of 100L free biological media included, 50L of Burtons Bio Tube Media and 50L of Burtons Bio Flo+ Media.

Many retailers sell combi drum filters without any filter media, meaning customers must purchase moving bed media separately. However, we supply the BD 150 Combi ready to run with biological media included. As a result, installation is simpler and the filter can begin establishing beneficial bacteria straight away.

This provides better value and ensures your filtration system is fully operational from the start.

How the Burtons BD150 Combi Drum Filter Works

Water from the pond enters the drum filter through two 110 mm inlet connections. The water then passes through the rotating stainless steel drum screen. The 60 micron mesh captures fine debris before it reaches the biological chamber.

As debris builds on the screen, the water level inside the drum chamber slowly rises. The internal sensor detects this change and activates the cleaning cycle automatically.

During the cleaning cycle the drum rotates while four high pressure spray jets wash the screen using pressurised water. The waste is flushed into the waste tray and discharged out of the filter to drain.

Because the drum cleans itself automatically, mechanical filtration remains efficient at all times. This also protects the biological filtration stage from excessive solid waste.

Integrated Biological Filtration Chamber

Unlike standalone drum filters, the BD 150 Combi includes an integrated biological filtration chamber. The chamber can hold up to 100 litres of fluidised moving bed media. As water passes through the chamber, beneficial bacteria colonise the media surface. These bacteria break down harmful ammonia and nitrite produced by fish waste and uneaten food.

This biological stage is essential for maintaining a healthy pond environment. By combining drum filtration with moving bed filtration, the BD 150 Combi provides a complete filtration solution within a single unit. We recommend the Charles Austen ET80 Airpump to be used with this filter system.

Smart Bluetooth Control System

The Burtons BD150 Combi Drum Filter includes a Bluetooth enabled control system that allows monitoring through the Crouzet Virtual Display app. Using a smartphone or tablet, pond keepers can monitor the drum filter and adjust settings remotely.

The control system also includes weatherproof socket outlets for connecting pumps and UV clarifiers. This simplifies installation and keeps electrical components organised within the filtration system.
