Rockways Atlantis Curved Stream Waterfall ASRW03
A sandstone-effect stream section for a garden pond or concealed reservoir
The Rockways Atlantis Curved Stream creates a winding route for water before it spills into the pond below. Its moulded rock edges and sandstone colouring suit a natural-looking pond margin, particularly where a straight waterfall would look out of place. At 107cm long and 70cm wide, it provides a substantial visible watercourse without the weight and construction work involved in building the whole channel from individual stones.
This listing is for the ASRW03 curved stream feature. A hose connector and pipe fitting are included; the pump, connecting hose and any collection basin are selected separately. It is a recirculating water feature when connected to a suitable pump and pond or reservoir, rather than a self-contained fountain with its own water supply. Choosing the position and water route
The curved shape works well when the garden layout needs the water to change direction before reaching the pond. Place the feature temporarily and look at it from the main viewing position before committing to the supporting base. Leave enough room around its 107 x 70cm footprint for stable support, the hose connection and any planting or stones used to blend it into the garden.
The 30cm pour edge should direct water into the watertight collection area. Keep it clear of leaves and overhanging plants, and check that the receiving water can catch the stream and splashes. A feature that looks correctly positioned when dry may need a small adjustment once water is flowing. Testing before the surrounding landscaping is finished makes those adjustments much easier.
Supporting and connecting the waterfall
Rockways’ fitting instructions recommend supporting the feature with suitable blocks, bricks or sleepers, with breeze or cellular concrete blocks suggested as a practical option. Position the waterfall over the pond edge, keep it level across the flow and raise the back slightly so water runs towards the outlet. Build a stable support that holds the feature securely instead of balancing it on a few loose decorative stones.
Test the angle by running water down the channel, then adjust the support until the water follows the intended route. The moulded hose connection has a thin covering that must be opened before use, as described in the supplied instructions. Connect flexible hose to the stepped hosetail and secure it with an appropriate hose clip. Match the hose to the actual supplied fitting before trimming anything.
Run the hose alongside or beneath the feature without kinks or pressure from the supporting materials. Keep enough access to inspect the joint and remove the pump for cleaning. Rockways describes backfilling around the installed feature with a dry sand-and-cement mix and then soil; complete this only after the support, angle and water test are satisfactory. Decorative stones and planting can soften the edges while leaving the water path unobstructed.
Selecting a pump for the finished installation
Rockways recommends a pump output of 1,500 litres per hour for this model. Choose the pump with the actual lift and hose route in mind: a pump’s headline maximum flow is not necessarily what reaches the top of a waterfall. Height, hose length, bends and the connection diameter all influence delivered flow. Compare the pump’s performance information at the proposed working height, and provide a suitable way to adjust the flow where the pump permits it.
Our pond pump range includes models for different water conditions and installations. Select a pump intended for the water it will handle and follow its own instructions for positioning and electrical connection. If the cascade shares a pump with another feature, both outlets draw from the same available supply, so check the complete arrangement rather than sizing each branch independently.
Using a hidden reservoir
Rockways also describes the Curved Stream as suitable for a pondless arrangement, where the water returns to a concealed collection basin. The basin is a separate component and needs enough capacity and a suitable collection area for the feature. Allow for the water travelling through the hose and cascade during operation, and for that water returning when the pump stops. Keep the pump and water level accessible for inspection and topping up.
A hidden reservoir does not remove the need to control splashing. Run the feature at its intended flow, check around the edges for escaping water and observe it after stopping and restarting the pump. Finish the surrounding garden only when the complete return route works reliably.
Finish, care and alternative styles
The sandstone effect is handmade, so slight shade differences are part of the finish. Use the photographs as a guide to the model and overall appearance. Remove accumulated leaves and debris from the channel, and investigate a reduced flow by checking the pump intake, hose and reservoir level. Isolate the pump before maintenance and follow its seasonal care instructions.
If a slate-effect cascade suits your pond better, compare the Rockways Aber Falls Step. For help with the ASRW03 layout, contact That Pond Guy with the height from the water surface to the inlet, approximate hose length and a photograph of the proposed position. These details help us discuss a pump and layout that work together.
