Rockways Atlantis Highland Rock Fall Waterfall
A preformed rock cascade with natural-stone colouring and a 35cm pour
The Rockways Atlantis Highland Rock Fall brings the appearance of a rocky watercourse to a garden pond without building the entire channel from individual stones. Its moulded rock edges surround a stepped central route, guiding pumped water towards the final spill. The natural-stone colour includes a blended green algae effect, giving the surface a weathered appearance from the start. This colouring is part of the finish rather than a live plant or treatment.
This is the Highland Rock Fall, reference AHW04P, also written AHWO4P by Rockways. It measures 87cm long by 65cm wide, weighs 8kg and has a 35cm pour. It is made from polyurethane and supplied with a built-in hose connector and pipe fitting. A pump, connecting hose and any collection reservoir are purchased separately, allowing the installation to be planned around your pond.

Planning the waterfall at the pond edge
Mark out the 87 x 65cm footprint before preparing the base. Allow extra working space at the inlet for the hose connection, and position the final pour over the pond’s watertight area. The receiving area needs to catch the falling water as well as ordinary splashing. A feature that fits between two rocks may still be poorly positioned if its spill lands on dry ground or outside the pond liner.
View the proposed position from the places where you normally enjoy the garden. The rock edges can be softened with surrounding planting, but keep soil, gravel and foliage clear of the channel itself. Leave access to the rear connection and choose a pump position that you can reach for cleaning. A temporary trial arrangement is much easier to adjust than a finished installation surrounded by permanent landscaping.
Support and levelling
Rockways’ fitting instructions describe supporting its waterfalls with blocks, bricks or sleepers, recommending breeze or cellular concrete blocks. Provide a stable base and support the feature over the pond edge. The back should sit slightly higher than the outlet so water travels in the intended direction, while the feature remains level across the flow.
Test with water before fixing the surrounding landscape. Watch each step and the final pour, looking for water escaping sideways or running behind the intended receiving area. Adjust the base and angle until the route works properly. The aim is a secure installation with water returning to the pond; the hose should not be supporting the feature or pulling it out of position.
Connecting the water supply
The built-in hose connector has a thin film over its opening. Rockways instructs installers to open this before connecting the fitting, either by pushing through or cutting it out as described in the supplied directions. Fit suitable flexible hose to the stepped hosetail and secure the connection with an appropriate hose clip. Check the actual hose and fitting sizes before cutting either part.
Keep the supply hose free from sharp bends and protect it from being crushed beneath the supporting blocks or decorative stones. Leave the joint accessible while testing. Once the water route is satisfactory, the manufacturer’s guide describes backfilling around the feature with a dry sand-and-cement mixture and then soil. Avoid covering access points that you will need when inspecting or servicing the system.
Choosing a pump for the installed height
Rockways recommends a pump output of 2,500 litres per hour for this model. The pump has to deliver water at the waterfall inlet, so check its flow chart against the planned lift and hose arrangement. A headline maximum flow figure is measured under different conditions from a raised waterfall installation. Hose length, diameter, bends and fittings also affect the flow that reaches the top.
Our pond pump range includes options for different water conditions and installations. Select a pump suitable for the pond and the proposed duty, then fine-tune the flow using an appropriate control where available. If a filter or another outlet shares the pump, consider the total demand. This decorative waterfall should complement, rather than substitute for, the filtration and aeration needed by a stocked pond.
Using the Rock Fall without an open pond
Rockways confirms that the Highland Rock Fall can discharge into a concealed sump for a pondless installation. The sump collects the water and houses the pump that returns it to the waterfall inlet. It must be selected separately, with enough capacity and collection area for the finished feature. Provide access for checking the water level and removing the pump when necessary.
During commissioning, run the waterfall and check that splashes remain inside the collection area. Switch the pump off to confirm that water draining from the feature and hose can return safely to the reservoir. Restart and check that the pump remains supplied with water. Top up as necessary after evaporation, and follow the pump manufacturer’s electrical and maintenance instructions.
Care and choosing between Highland models
Remove leaves and other debris from the watercourse, and inspect the pump intake and hose if the flow changes. Isolate the pump before maintenance. Rockways handcrafts these features and notes that small differences in shade can occur during manufacture, so photographs show the intended shape and finish rather than an identical colour pattern on every example.
