Rockways Atlantis Midi Slate Curve Stream Waterfall

A curved, stepped water route in a compact Welsh Slate finish

The Rockways Atlantis Midi Slate Curve Stream Waterfall brings a short curved cascade to a garden pond or a separately designed pondless feature. Its stepped channel turns the water through a compact rock-effect shape, making it useful where a straight waterfall would point in the wrong direction or take up too much space. The Rustic Welsh Slate finish works particularly well alongside darker stones and planted pond margins.

This AMW05S feature measures 57cm long, 65cm wide and 20cm high. It is a moulded resin waterfall, rather than a complete pump-and-reservoir kit. Select the pump, hose and any hidden sump separately to suit the position and height of your installation. Our pond waterfall range includes other shapes if you need a longer stream or a different style of fall.

Product specifications

  • Reference: AMW05S.
  • Length: 57cm.
  • Width: 65cm.

  • Colour: Rustic Welsh Slate effect.
  • Construction: moulded resin.
  • Use: garden pond cascade or water feature with a separate collection reservoir.
  • Supplied as the waterfall feature; pump, hose and reservoir are not included.

The width is greater than the length, so check the full footprint rather than treating this as a narrow stream section. Mark out 57 x 65cm on the ground and allow additional room for support, pipework and landscaping. The photograph and dimension diagram show the direction of the curve; turn the feature during a dry layout check to see how its inlet and outlet work with your pond.

Choosing a position that suits the curve

A curved route can help bring the outlet back towards the water while leaving the supply hose behind planting or a small rockery. Start with the outlet position: it must return the water safely inside the lined pond or reservoir area. Then work backwards to decide where the rear of the waterfall and hose connection can sit.

Look at the proposed position from the usual viewing points. Low foliage around the outside can help the feature blend into the garden, but plants should not conceal the moving water or shed soil into the channel. Leave a gap for cleaning and checking the connection. A feature that looks tucked neatly into a corner still needs enough access for routine care.

Supporting the feature and testing the flow

Use a firm supporting base rather than balancing the moulding on loose stones. Rockways’ fitting guidance describes using appropriate blocks, bricks or sleepers, with a slight fall from the rear towards the outlet. Make sure the feature also sits level across the water route, so the flow does not concentrate along one outer edge of the curve.

Connect the supply and run the waterfall before finishing the landscaping. Watch the full route, including the small steps and the outlet, rather than checking only that water reaches the pond. If water collects in an unintended area or escapes over a side, adjust the support and flow before adding decorative stone or planting. Avoid using the feature to carry heavy landscaping loads.

A test with the pump switched off is useful too. Water remaining in the channel and supply hose may return to the collection area, so check that it has space to receive that water. Keep all joints accessible until you are satisfied that the system runs and stops without leaking outside the intended boundary.

Matching the pump to the installation

Pump choice depends on more than the size of the waterfall. Measure the vertical distance from the pond water level to the inlet and consider the hose length, diameter and bends. These affect the flow that arrives at the cascade. Use the pump manufacturer’s performance information at the planned lift, rather than choosing only by the largest flow figure on its packaging.

An adjustable supply helps you find a setting that fills the channel attractively without throwing water outside it. Begin with a gentle flow and increase it while watching the outer edge of the curve and the receiving area. Match the hose to the supplied connection, follow the feature’s fitting instructions when preparing the inlet, and secure the hose so it cannot pull or twist the joint.

Using a concealed reservoir

The Slate Curve can be incorporated into a pondless arrangement where the water disappears into a hidden sump and returns through the pump. The reservoir must be watertight, with a suitable cover and support for the finished design. Size the collection area to catch splashes as well as the main flow, especially where wind can push water away from the outlet.

Plan an access point for lifting the pump and checking the water level. Decorative gravel should not drop into the pump intake or prevent you from opening the reservoir. Follow the pump’s minimum water-depth requirements and check the level more frequently in warm or windy weather. A hidden reservoir makes the water less visible, not maintenance-free.

Care and alternative waterfall shapes

Remove leaves and debris from the steps before they divert the water. If the flow changes, inspect the water level, pump intake and hose for a blockage or kink before replacing equipment. Isolate the pump before maintenance and follow its cleaning and winter-storage instructions. Inspect exposed connections when restarting the feature after a period out of use.

Small shade variations are normal with Rockways’ handcrafted finishes. For a more direct change of level, compare the Atlantis Midi Slate Drop. If you have room for a longer sandstone route, the Atlantis Curved Stream Waterfall offers a larger alternative. Check the dimensions and water route of your chosen feature against the space available before ordering.
