Rockways Atlantis Midi Slate Drop Garden Cascade
A compact slate-effect waterfall with a distinct change in level
The Rockways Atlantis Midi Slate Drop Garden Cascade creates a short, clearly defined waterfall at the edge of a garden pond. The moulded rock walls guide water towards the drop, while the Welsh Slate finish brings a darker, layered-stone appearance to the planting around it. Measuring 69cm long and 49cm wide, it provides a focal point without requiring the space needed for a long artificial stream.
This is the AMW06S cascade made from polyurethane resin. It can return water to a pond or work with a suitable hidden reservoir in a pondless design. The waterfall is supplied as a feature on its own: choose a pump, connecting hose and collection reservoir separately for your layout. Compare it with the other pond waterfalls in our range if you are deciding between a compact drop and a longer flowing channel.

The 25cm height is the overall measurement of the feature, rather than a promise of a 25cm free-falling sheet of water. The final effect depends on how the cascade is supported, where its outlet sits above the receiving water and how much flow reaches it. Use the dimension image alongside the measurements when marking out the space around an existing pond.
What makes a drop-style cascade different?
A drop-style feature concentrates the movement into a short route with a noticeable change of level. This can suit a pond viewed from a nearby patio or seating area, where you want to see the water moving without building a substantial stream bed. The rock-effect sides also give planting and loose landscaping stone an edge to work around.
Think about the viewing angle before preparing the base. If the fall points away from the seating area, the most interesting part can disappear behind its surrounding rockwork. Set the unconnected feature in position first and check it from the main viewpoints. Leave space to reach the rear connection and the pump rather than enclosing every side permanently.
Supporting and positioning the waterfall
The feature needs stable support across the areas carrying its weight. Rockways’ installation guidance describes building a base with appropriate blocks, bricks or sleepers and setting a slight fall towards the outlet. Check the level across the water route as well: a sideways tilt can send the flow towards one wall instead of allowing it to travel down the intended channel.
Position the outlet within the pond’s lined boundary or above a collection area that will catch the falling water and normal splashing. A waterfall can lose water even when the main stream appears to land in the pond, particularly if spray reaches nearby paving or soil. Test the installation with water running before completing the planting and disguising the base.
Keep heavy decorative rocks independently supported. The resin feature should not become a structural bridge beneath a pile of stone or a step used to reach the pond. A firm, accessible installation is easier to adjust and clean than one held in place only by surrounding decoration.
Choosing the pump and hose
Select a pump using the height from the pond water surface to the waterfall inlet, together with the length and diameter of the hose. A pump’s headline flow rating does not describe what it will deliver after lifting water and pushing it through pipework. Check the manufacturer’s performance information for the actual lift, and allow for losses through bends and fittings.
Flow adjustment is useful during commissioning. Start gently, check where the water travels and increase it until the appearance suits the feature without excessive splash. More flow is not automatically better for a compact cascade. Match the hose to the actual inlet connection, secure the joints appropriately and avoid tight bends that can restrict the supply. Follow the fitting instructions supplied with the waterfall when preparing the connection.
Planning a pondless installation
For a garden without a pond, the return water must enter a watertight reservoir containing the pump. Choose the reservoir and supporting cover as part of the whole design, taking account of the waterfall’s position, splash area and surrounding landscaping. A concealed sump still needs accessible maintenance space and enough water to keep the pump operating correctly.
Allow for the water held in the hose and feature while the pump runs, and for that water returning when it is switched off. Test both conditions before finishing the surface. Make the pump access point easy to find beneath any decorative gravel, and keep loose material out of the pump intake. Regular water-level checks are especially useful during dry or windy weather.
Cleaning and choosing an alternative shape
Clear leaves and debris from the channel before they affect the flow. If the cascade becomes weaker, check the reservoir or pond level, pump intake and hose route first. Clean the pump in accordance with its instructions and isolate its electrical supply before maintenance. For winter shutdown, follow the pump manufacturer’s guidance and avoid leaving trapped water in vulnerable connections.
Rockways handcrafts the finish, so small shade differences between individual features are normal. If a warmer sandstone appearance suits your garden better, compare the Atlantis Single Step Garden Waterfall. For a larger curved route, see the Atlantis Curved Stream Waterfall. Each is a different shape and footprint; check the layout rather than assuming that separate pieces interlock.
A curved route in the same slate-effect style
If your layout needs the water to turn rather than make a distinct drop, compare the Rockways Atlantis Midi Slate Curve Stream Waterfall. Its 57 x 65 x 20cm stepped channel offers a wider, curved alternative in a Rustic Welsh Slate finish.
