Rockways Atlantis Highland Curved Stream Waterfall

A natural-stone-effect cascade with a broad 40cm pour

The Rockways Atlantis Highland Curved Stream creates a rocky, stepped watercourse at the edge of a pond. Its natural-stone colouring offers a different appearance from the warmer sandstone Atlantis models, while the curved route gives water several changes of level before it reaches the final pour. This makes it a useful choice when the waterfall will be a visible part of the garden rather than a small outlet hidden among plants.

The feature measures 108cm long by 67cm wide and weighs 10kg. Rockways specifies a 40cm pour, so allow enough space in the receiving pond or reservoir for the falling water and normal splashing. A built-in hose connector and pipe fitting are included. The pump, hose and any concealed collection basin are separate items and are not included with this waterfall.

Deciding where the Highland stream will sit

Use the 108 x 67cm footprint to plan the position before preparing the surrounding ground. Leave working room behind the inlet for the hose and enough space around the sides for secure support. The final pour needs to project over the watertight collection area, so the edge of the feature and the edge of the pond should be considered together.

The natural-stone finish can be blended with rocks and planting, but keep the stepped channel open. Loose gravel, soil and fallen leaves can interrupt the water route or wash into the pump. Consider how the feature will look from your main seating area and how you will reach the connection for future maintenance. Temporary positioning is worthwhile before any backfill or decorative edging makes the layout difficult to change.

A stable base and the right angle

Rockways’ fitting guide recommends blocks, bricks or sleepers as suitable supporting materials and suggests breeze or cellular concrete blocks. The feature should be supported securely over the pond edge, with the back slightly higher so water moves towards the final outlet. Keep it level across the flow; an unwanted sideways tilt can send water towards an outer edge instead of through the intended channel.

Run water through the feature while the supports are still accessible. Adjust the angle and support until the water follows the moulded route and returns cleanly to the pond. Check the whole length rather than judging only the final spill. Do not leave the 10kg feature balanced on a few loose stones or allow the hose to pull against its inlet.

Connecting the pump and hose

The built-in connector has a thin covering that must be opened before connecting the fitting, following the supplied instructions. Rockways describes pushing through or cutting this covering, then connecting flexible hose to the stepped hosetail and securing the joint with a suitable hose clip. Confirm the hose and supplied fitting sizes before trimming or modifying either component.

Route the hose without tight bends and protect it from being crushed by the supporting structure or surrounding rocks. Keep the pump accessible for cleaning and make sure its electrical installation follows the pump manufacturer’s instructions. Once the feature has passed its water test, the Rockways guide describes backfilling around it with a dry sand-and-cement mix and then soil. Finish the edges without covering service connections unnecessarily.

Choosing enough flow for the complete installation

Rockways recommends a pump output of 2,500 litres per hour for the Highland Curved Stream. Select the pump using its performance at the planned lift, not its maximum flow figure alone. The rise from the pond surface to the waterfall inlet, the hose diameter, length and bends all affect how much water reaches the top. A suitable adjustment facility can help you tune the finished effect without excessive splashing.

Browse our pond pumps and choose a model suitable for the water conditions and installation. If the pump also supplies a filter or another decorative outlet, assess the combined demand and the restrictions in each branch. The movement from a waterfall is decorative and should not replace a properly sized filtration or aeration system for a stocked pond.

Pondless use and commissioning

Rockways confirms that this model can be used with a hidden sump. In that arrangement, the reservoir collects the falling water and contains the pump that returns it to the inlet. Choose the reservoir separately with enough collection area, operating water volume and access for maintenance. Allow for the water held in the hose and cascade to drain back when the pump stops.

Before concealing the reservoir, run the pump, inspect the perimeter for escaping splashes and then switch off to check the return flow. Restart it and confirm that the pump remains correctly supplied with water. Keep a practical route for checking the water level and topping up after evaporation.

Care and comparing the available finishes

These features are handmade, and Rockways notes that small shade differences can occur during production. Use the official photographs as a guide to the shape and natural-stone effect. Remove leaves from the steps and check the pump intake, hose and water level if the flow changes. Isolate the pump before maintenance and follow its instructions for seasonal shutdown and storage.

For a warmer sandstone finish, compare the Rockways Atlantis Curved Stream ASRW03, or browse all our pond waterfalls. If you need help planning the Highland installation, contact That Pond Guy with the proposed height, hose length and a photograph of the pond edge.

Compare the Highland Rock Fall

For a shorter feature in the natural-stone colour family, see the Rockways Atlantis Highland Rock Fall. It measures 87 x 65cm, has a 35cm pour and weighs 8kg. Compare the footprint and outlet position before choosing the waterfall for your pond edge.
