Oase AlgoClear was developed as part of the Oase professional lake therapy range to control green algae and blue green algae by disrupting photosynthesis rather than relying on harsh chemicals. It was designed for ponds, lakes, fisheries, and reservoirs experiencing excessive algal growth driven by nutrient imbalance.

Algal blooms are typically a symptom of elevated nutrient levels, particularly phosphate and nitrate, combined with favourable light and temperature conditions. When these parameters become unbalanced, algae can reproduce rapidly, consuming carbonate hardness, destabilising pH, reducing oxygen availability, and degrading overall water quality. AlgoClear was formulated to interrupt this cycle by limiting algae’s ability to use light for growth.

AlgoClear worked using SpektroSorp technology, which blocks specific ultraviolet wavelengths required for algal photosynthesis. By preventing algae from accessing this critical part of the light spectrum, both green algae and blue green algae growth could be suppressed without introducing heavy metals, biocides, or persistent residues. Rather than killing algae aggressively, AlgoClear stemmed growth at its source and supported a more stable biological balance.

In addition to limiting algae reproduction, AlgoClear helped reduce secondary water quality issues associated with algal metabolism. By controlling excessive algae activity, it supported more stable pH and carbonate hardness values and reduced the likelihood of sudden parameter swings following algae die off. This made it suitable for sensitive aquatic environments where long term balance was essential.

Although AlgoClear is no longer available, its role within lake management has been replaced by newer, more targeted treatments. For preventative algae control without chemicals, Oase AlgoShield is now the preferred solution, using improved SpectroSorb technology. For active blue green algae outbreaks and toxin neutralisation, Oase CyanoClear provides fast acting emergency treatment. To address the underlying nutrient cause of algae problems, Oase SeDox or SeDox Speed should be used to bind phosphate and prevent regrowth.
