Filtreau Excellent Bio Drum 35 – Pump Fed

A wider automatic drum for pump-fed pond systems

The pump-fed Excellent Bio Drum 35 offers a wider drum than the 25 model while retaining a 1,163 mm-long, 680 mm-high body. It is worth comparing when you want more mechanical throughput without moving to one of the much larger Excellent housings.

The pond circulation pump feeds dirty water into this model. Its maximum flow is 25,000 litres/hour, and the cleaned water must be able to leave through a suitable gravity return. Do not use the gravity-fed Bio Drum 35’s flow figure to size this installation.

A screen that washes itself

The 500 mm drum has a 120-micron screen for suspended solids removal. As collected dirt changes the water level, the controller operates the motor and internal pressure-cleaning pump. The spray bar rinses the mesh while the drum rotates, sending the dirt to waste.

This is particularly useful when replacing a labour-intensive mechanical stage. It still depends on a clear waste pipe and sensible access for inspections. A blocked discharge should be addressed directly rather than hidden by changing the cleaning controls.

UV-C and the wider filtration design

The included 80W high-output UV-C helps tackle the suspended algae that cause green water. Biological media does a different job, supporting the bacteria that process ammonia and nitrite. Choose the media capacity and air supply around the pond’s fish stock and feeding rate, then check that the gravity return can carry the planned flow through every stage.

Compare the Excellent Combi 25/30 Low Pump Fed if integrated moving-bed and matting sections are the priority. When retaining existing biological equipment, check its flow capacity, water level and return arrangement alongside those of the drum.

Getting the installed flow right

Choose the circulation pump from its working output after lift and pipe losses. The return must carry that output freely, including any subsequent filter stages. A large pump connected through a restrictive return can upset the operating level even when the drum itself is correctly sized.

The 700 mm-wide body needs full base support and clearance for lid opening and UV servicing. Plan the position so the lamp and quartz can be removed without cutting apart the surrounding pipework.

Comparisons and routine ownership

The Bio Drum 25 Pump Fed is narrower, while the Bio Drum 60 Pump Fed offers a larger drum and more connections. If bottom drains will supply the filter before the pumps, look at the gravity-fed 35 instead.

Use the Excellent manual for safe checks of the screen, nozzles and waste channel. Keep the exact HO lamp identity with the filter records so a future UV service uses the correct component rather than a guess based on wattage.
