The Filtreau Excellent Bio Drum 60 Gravity Fed is a professional mechanical drum filtration system built for large koi ponds and ornamental water features. It is designed specifically for gravity fed installations where the filter sits at pond water level and receives water directly from bottom drains.

With a maximum flow rate of approximately 60m³ per hour, this model suits koi ponds up to around 60000 litres, depending on stocking density and feeding levels. Because it focuses purely on high performance mechanical separation, it works best when installed before a separate biological filter such as a moving bed or multi bay system.

By removing waste at the earliest stage, the drum prevents solids from reaching the biological filter. As a result, the downstream bio stage runs cleaner, remains more stable and performs more efficiently over time.

Precision Mechanical Separation with Integrated UV Clarification

At the centre of the unit sits a stainless steel drum fitted with a precision 120 micron stainless mesh screen. This fine mesh captures fish waste, uneaten food and suspended solids before they break down inside the system. Consequently, ammonia spikes are reduced and water clarity improves.

As debris builds up on the drum screen, a stainless steel float switch detects the restriction. It then activates the automatic cleaning cycle. The heavy duty SPG XL drive motor rotates the drum with 130Nm of torque. At the same time, high pressure spray nozzles powered by the internal RVS 5 bar flushing pump clean the mesh and flush waste directly to drain. Therefore, the filter maintains peak efficiency without manual intervention.

In addition, the integrated 80W High Output immersion UV C unit operates at 253.7nm. This UV system suppresses algae growth and reduces harmful pathogens as water passes through the chamber. As a result, pond water remains clearer and healthier throughout the year.

After mechanical separation, water exits the unit via 4 x 110mm outlets. It then flows to a separate biological filtration stage. Because this staged layout separates mechanical and biological processes, you can size the bio system precisely to match fish stocking levels and feeding intensity.
