Filtreau Excellent Bio Drum 100 – Pump Fed

A large automatic mechanical stage for pump-fed ponds

The Excellent Bio Drum 100 Pump Fed provides a long mechanical drum for a large pond system supplied by circulation pumps. Its 650 × 800 mm drum, internal pressure-cleaning pump and two 80W high-output UV-C units sit in a 1,575 × 850 × 780 mm body.

The pump-fed maximum is 75,000 litres/hour. The gravity-fed 100,000 litres/hour figure belongs to another configuration and should not be applied to this unit. The combined output of the feed pumps and the capacity of the gravity return must be designed together.

Removing solids automatically

The 120-micron screen holds suspended waste back. When screen loading changes the water level, the controller turns the drum and starts the internal wash pump. The spray bar removes the collected dirt through the waste channel.

The cleaning pump is part of the filter, but it does not supply the pond’s circulation. Keep that distinction clear in the equipment list, along with the biological treatment and aeration required by the full system.

Matching biological and mechanical capacity

A high-flow drum cannot compensate for insufficient mature biological media. Size the biological stage and oxygen supply for the fish and feeding load, and check that every downstream component can carry the planned flow.

The Excellent Combi 80/100 XXL Pump Fed is worth comparing if you want dedicated biological media sections within one larger body. A modular installation may instead retain an existing biological stage and use the Bio Drum for automatic solids separation.

Twin high-output UV-C

Two 80W HO units assist suspended-algae control on the large circuit. Keep the quartz clean and service both lamps with the correct components. An 80W amalgam lamp is not automatically a replacement for an 80W HO lamp, and clear water does not remove the need to check ammonia and nitrite.

Leave a clear extraction route for both UV assemblies. The compact body dimensions are only part of the space needed once valves, waste plumbing, electrical protection and a safe service aisle are included.

A practical high-flow installation

The return should carry the combined flow without high spots, avoidable reductions or restrictive shared branches. Check the operating levels through several rinse cycles at a controlled feed rate before increasing output. Keep the waste discharge accessible for routine inspection and clearing.

Compare the Bio Drum 60 Pump Fed for a smaller circuit, or the gravity-fed Bio Drum 100 where the pumps sit after the filter. Follow the Excellent manual for safe maintenance and screen care, and avoid designing an enclosure that makes those routine jobs difficult.
