Filtreau Excellent Bio Drum 25 – Pump Fed
Automatic screen cleaning for ponds with a pumped filter supply
The Excellent Bio Drum 25 Pump Fed suits a pond that sends dirty water up to the filter using a circulation pump. Its 530 mm-wide body combines the automatic drum, internal cleaning pump and 80W high-output UV-C without the footprint of a larger conventional combi.
The maximum throughput is 20,000 litres/hour for this version. The pump-fed operating arrangement matters more than the 25 in the name when selecting the feed pump and gravity return.
What the drum and UV do
Suspended waste is retained by the 120-micron screen. As that screen loads and changes the water level, the controller starts the drum motor and wash pump. The spray bar cleans the rotating mesh, and the waste leaves through a dedicated discharge.
The 80W high-output UV-C helps control suspended green-water algae. Keep its lamp and quartz accessible for servicing, and match replacement parts to the installed HO unit. Equal wattage does not make a different lamp technology compatible.
Keep biological treatment in the system plan
Pair this mechanical stage with biological filtration that can accept its working flow. Beneficial bacteria on mature media process ammonia and nitrite; they need a steady supply of oxygen as well as water. Allow space for that media and its air supply when planning the filter bay.
The Excellent Combi 20/25 Low Pump Fed is a useful comparison if you want dedicated moving-bed and matting sections in the same unit. If another biological filter is already installed, check that it can accept the flow and that the combined gravity return remains free-running.
Planning the above-pond installation
The body measures 1,163 Ă— 530 Ă— 680 mm. Support it evenly and allow enough height for water to pass through the remaining stages and return to the pond. Avoid a convenient small return hose becoming the limiting point of the entire system.
Check the feed pump’s delivered flow after lift and pipe resistance. Start at a controlled output and observe operating levels through several rinse cycles. Increasing pump speed is not the answer if the water is already backing up after the filter.

Comparison and maintenance
The Bio Drum 35 Pump Fed offers a wider drum and a higher pump-fed flow limit. The gravity-fed Bio Drum 25 belongs before the pond circulation pump rather than after it.
Keep the waste channel, nozzles and screen under regular inspection and provide space to work safely around the lid. Follow the Excellent operating manual for isolation and servicing; automatic rinsing should reduce routine labour without making essential checks difficult to perform.
