Filtreau Excellent Bio Drum 60 – Pump Fed

High-capacity screen filtration for a pumped pond supply

The Excellent Bio Drum 60 Pump Fed is a substantial automatic drum for a pond that pumps dirty water into its filter. Its 650 mm-diameter screen drum, internal wash pump and 80W high-output UV-C provide the mechanical and green-water treatment stages in an 850 mm-wide body.

Maximum throughput is 45,000 litres/hour. This is the pump-fed figure, not the higher gravity-fed limit. The circulation pump, return pipes and any further treatment stages all need to work within the same planned water circuit.

Cleaning suspended waste out of the circuit

The 120-micron screen retains dirt as water passes through. A change in water level starts the automatic cleaning cycle, using the drum drive and internal pressure pump to rinse the screen. Removed material leaves through the waste discharge.

That automatic separation can make a large mechanical stage much less labour-intensive. It still relies on regular checks of the mesh, nozzles and waste path. Keep those components accessible rather than building the filter into a space where inspections become difficult.

Biological treatment remains essential

Choose adequate mature biological media and aeration for the actual feeding demand. The drum’s flow capability does not describe the amount of food a pond can support, and the UV-C does not replace ammonia and nitrite conversion.

For a pump-fed filter with dedicated media chambers inside one body, compare the Excellent Combi 50/70 Pump Fed. If a separate biological filter is already in service, check its capacity and return arrangement before connecting the Bio Drum to it.

Flow and the return route

At this size, several inlet pumps or branches may be involved. Consider their combined delivered flow, including lift and friction losses, and keep the clean-water return large enough to drain freely. A common narrow section after multiple outlets can become a bottleneck.

The body measures 1,163 Ă— 850 Ă— 780 mm and needs full support when installed. Leave room for the lid and UV service route, as well as access to the seven inlet and four outlet connections. The installation envelope is larger than the bare housing.

Selecting and maintaining the model

Compare the Bio Drum 35 Pump Fed for a smaller system or the Bio Drum 100 Pump Fed where a longer drum and greater permitted flow are needed. The gravity-fed 60 belongs before the circulation pumps.

Use the Excellent manual for safe commissioning and servicing. Keep a record of the correct HO lamp and quartz parts, observe the operating levels during rinse cycles and investigate restrictions before increasing pump output.
