Matching replacement UV lamps to the unit in your filter

A replacement UV lamp is a routine service part, but it must match the unit already installed. This page brings together the 40W and 80W options; check the old lamp and ballast labels before selecting rather than ordering by the filter name alone.

Filtreau uses more than one UV lamp family. A 40W or 80W amalgam replacement is not automatically suitable for an Excellent high-output stainless-steel module with the same wattage. Lamp length, connector and control gear all need to match.

When a new lamp is useful

UV-C output declines with service time even when the lamp still produces visible light. Follow the installed unit’s replacement interval or indicator rather than waiting for the lamp to stop lighting. A replacement can restore the lamp’s contribution to green-water control when the rest of the UV system is working correctly.

Poor clarity can also have other causes. Check the quartz for deposits, the treatment flow and the condition of the control gear. A new lamp will not repair a failed ballast or remove a coating from the quartz sleeve.

Identify the component before ordering

Record the lamp’s wattage, printed reference, connector arrangement and the UV unit model. If identification is uncertain, send us clear photographs of the old lamp ends and the ballast label before placing the order. Do not dismantle energised equipment to obtain them.

The standard amalgam supplier references are UV701 for the 40W lamp and UV703 for the 80W lamp. Use the matching variation only after confirming that it corresponds to the installed unit. The replacement lamp is not a complete UV system or a new quartz sleeve.

Servicing the UV safely

Isolate power and allow the assembly to cool before opening it. Follow the exact unit instructions, handle the glass carefully and check the seals and quartz during reassembly. Never operate an exposed lamp to test it.

If the protective glass is damaged, see the Filtreau amalgam quartz sleeves. The fully submersible lamp-and-quartz assemblies are a different product family and should not be substituted simply because their wattage looks close.
