How to Choose and Grow Pond Irises

Are all irises aquatic plants?

No. The iris genus includes plants for many different conditions. The varieties collected here are suitable for pond margins, bog gardens or reliably moist ground, but not every one should be submerged. Use the planting depth shown on the individual product page rather than applying one depth to every iris.

Where should I plant a pond iris?

True marginal irises can be planted in an aquatic basket on a pond shelf, with the crown and root zone positioned according to the product's depth guidance. Moisture-loving irises are better placed in damp soil just beyond the waterline. Most flower best in full sun, although many will tolerate some partial shade.

When do pond irises flower?

Flowering time varies by species and cultivar, but most irises in this collection flower from late spring into summer. Planting more than one type can extend the display and create a mix of flower colour, foliage and height around the pond.

Do pond irises need aquatic soil and baskets?
