TMC Pond Clear Advantage Three-Part Hosetail

Replacement hose connection with retaining nut and gasket, part 5249-D

The TMC Pond Clear Advantage three-part hosetail replaces the flexible-hose connection on the corresponding Pond Clear Advantage UV clarifier. The assembly comprises a stepped hosetail, retaining locknut and gasket. It is a practical repair when an original connector is cracked, its hose tail has been shortened for a previous installation, or the complete connection needs replacing during maintenance.

Use the manufacturer reference 5249-D when checking your existing equipment. TMC’s parts catalogue identifies this assembly for the Pond Clear Advantage UV15 and UV25. The connector is supplied individually, so order the number of connections you need. A complete UV clarifier, pond hose and hose clips are separate items.

Check the connection before ordering

Look at the model label on the UV unit and compare the fitting arrangement with the product photographs. This assembly has a separate black female retaining collar around the base of the translucent hosetail. The collar holds the fitting against the unit’s connection, with the gasket between the sealing faces. Identifying that arrangement is more useful than comparing the colour of two fittings.

TMC also makes a Pro Clear universal hosetail under reference 5249-C, and other connectors for the Pro Pond range. Similar names do not make them the same spare. If the old fitting screws directly into a socket using its own male thread, check the part reference carefully before choosing this three-part assembly. Send us a photograph of the complete unit, its label and the connection if you need help identifying the correct replacement.

Choosing the hose connection

The Pond Clear Advantage instructions describe connections for nominal half-inch, three-quarter-inch, one-inch and one-and-a-quarter-inch flexible hose. Match the hose’s internal bore to the appropriate step. Measuring the outside of a thick or reinforced hose can give a misleading result, so check the size printed on the hose or measure its opening with the equipment isolated.

Use a hose that follows the route without being stretched tight or bent sharply beside the UV unit. Leave enough room to undo the collar for future maintenance. Supporting the hose helps avoid using the connector as a lever, particularly where a long length changes direction immediately after leaving the equipment. Consider the route with the system in its normal operating position, rather than only while the pipework is disconnected.

Preparing a replacement

Before dismantling the connection, isolate the electrical and water supplies as directed in the equipment manual. Allow water trapped in the pipework to drain into a suitable container. Photographing the existing arrangement can be helpful if several hoses meet in a small filter area, and keeping the removed parts together makes it easier to compare them with the replacement.

Check that the unit’s connection is sound as well as the removable fitting. A new hosetail will not repair a cracked housing or damaged mating thread. Remove dirt from the sealing faces without scratching them, and check that the new gasket sits flat. If the fitting does not line up naturally, investigate the cause before applying force.

Fitting and checking the joint

For a larger hose bore, follow the manufacturer’s cutting guide to remove the smaller unwanted steps. Make that decision before cutting, as a shortened hosetail cannot subsequently accept a smaller hose in the original way. Keep debris out of the water path and inspect the finished edge before connecting the hose.

The manufacturer specifies hand-tightening the retaining nut, using the gasket to seal the connection, without jointing compound or PTFE tape. Secure the flexible hose with a suitable stainless-steel hose clip. Restore water flow and check the joint for leaks before restoring the UV’s electrical supply, following the full instructions for your unit.

After the initial check, look again once the hose is carrying water in its normal position. A connection can appear satisfactory while an unsupported hose is being held by hand, then move when released. If water appears, isolate the system again and inspect the seating and condition of the parts. Repeatedly tightening a plastic collar is not a substitute for finding the cause.

Making future servicing easier

Keep the part number with your equipment records so that the next replacement can be identified quickly. When checking the filter area, look for changes in the connector, hose and support arrangements. A fitting damaged by a pulled hose needs the cause of that strain corrected as well as a replacement part.

Plan access to the collar when moving or enclosing equipment. Removable panels and enough clearance around the hose connection can make a routine service much simpler. Avoid concealing the joint so completely that a small leak cannot be noticed. This spare helps restore the original connection; the pump, filtration and UV equipment should continue to be selected and operated within their own specifications.

Browse our pond hose fittings and connectors for other connection types, or the UV spare parts range for maintenance components. For a different repair on the Pro-Clear 30/55W range, see the TMC Pro-Clear replacement quartz sleeve; check the model-specific information on each spare before ordering.

Servicing the quartz-sleeve seals?

The hose connection and quartz-sleeve seals are separate parts. For compatible TMC units, see the TMC Pro Clear O-ring pack 5284, which contains two seal sizes with a model-selection card. Follow the guidance for your UV when choosing and fitting replacement rings.
