TMC Pro Clear Universal Hosetail 5249-C
A genuine replacement hose connector for the Pro Clear Advantage UV30 and UV55
The TMC 5249-C is the large, translucent blue universal hosetail used on the Pro Clear Advantage UV30 and UV55 range. It connects suitable flexible pond hose to the matching threaded inlet or outlet. TMC identifies this spare as a single universal hosetail with a 1½-inch thread. It is a useful replacement when the original connector is damaged, missing or has already been trimmed for a different hose size.
The manufacturer’s photograph shows the stepped hose connection, male thread and black sealing ring. Compare these features with the fitting removed from your clarifier. The exact part reference is particularly helpful because TMC has produced several UV ranges and generations, with different water connections even where the lamp wattage is similar.
Check the UV model before choosing the fitting
TMC’s Pro Clear Advantage UV30 and UV55 spare-parts diagram identifies 5249-C as the universal hosetail. Check the model label and, where available, the parts diagram supplied with your own unit. A description such as “30-watt UV” is not enough to distinguish every version. Match the spare reference, connection shape and thread rather than relying on the wattage alone.
The straight stepped fitting shown here differs from the angled connectors supplied with the later Pro Clear Ultima range. It also differs from the TMC Pond Clear Advantage Three-Part Hosetail 5249-D, which is a separate assembly. Check the individual product details before ordering an alternative. If identification is difficult, photographs of the model label and existing connection will help us check the correct spare.
What the two ends of the hosetail do
The threaded end screws into the matching connection on the UV body. The stepped end provides the hose connection. These are different measurements: the nominal thread size does not tell you the internal diameter of the hose already fitted to your pond. Check both ends before ordering, especially if the pipework was installed by someone else or has been altered over time.
The sealing ring sits near the threaded end. Its condition and correct position matter when making a watertight connection. Before fitting the replacement, inspect the mating surface on the UV body for debris or damage. A new hosetail cannot repair a split housing or a damaged female thread, so establish where any leak starts rather than assuming the connector is the only cause.
Replacing a damaged or previously trimmed connector
Stepped hosetails are often cut back during installation to suit the chosen hose. Once a smaller step has been removed, it cannot be restored. Replacing the fitting is a practical way to start again when changing the hose arrangement or reinstating a connection that has been cut incorrectly. Keep the new fitting intact until you have checked the hose size and the instructions for your UV.
Dry-fit the components before making permanent cuts. Any trimming should follow the equipment instructions and leave a clean, undamaged hose connection. Keep cutting debris away from the UV body and surrounding pipework. Do not cut the fitting while it is attached to the clarifier, where a slip or fragments of plastic could damage other components.
Support the hose and protect the connection
Plan the hose route so that it approaches the fitting without a tight bend or sideways pull. Flexible hose becomes heavier when filled with water, and an unsupported length can put unnecessary strain on a small threaded connector. Support the pipework independently where needed and retain access to the connection for inspection and future servicing.
Use a suitable hose clip and follow the equipment instructions when securing the hose. The clip should hold the hose firmly without damaging the plastic beneath it. If a connection is difficult to assemble, recheck the dimensions and condition of the parts. Forcing a mismatched hose or thread can turn a straightforward replacement into damage to the UV housing.
Safe isolation and the initial leak check
Disconnect the pond equipment from the electrical supply before working on the UV or putting your hands into the water. Stop the water flow and allow the relevant pipework to drain before removing the old fitting. Follow the clarifier’s instructions throughout, including any requirements for restarting the lamp after the water supply has been restored.
Once assembled, check the water connection for leaks before returning the system to normal operation. Watch both the threaded joint and the hose connection. Check again after the hose has settled into its working position. If a leak remains, stop the system and inspect the seal, seating and housing; simply tightening harder can damage plastic parts.
Related Pro Clear replacement parts
If you are servicing the clarifier at the same time, our TMC Pro Clear 30/55W Replacement Quartz Sleeve is listed separately. A quartz sleeve, its seals and a water-connection hosetail serve different purposes, so order each part against the correct diagram. This listing supplies one 5249-C hosetail; the UV clarifier, hose and clips are separate items.
