Super Heavy Duty Weighted Airline is a substantial self sinking air hose designed for larger pond, koi pond and lake aeration installations where standard small bore airline is not suitable. With a 1/2 inch internal diameter, approximately 12.5mm, and a very heavy 30mm external diameter, it is designed to stay on the pond or lake bed without needing separate weights, bricks or clips to hold it down.

This makes it ideal for permanent underwater aeration runs where a neat, protected and reliable installation is needed. Standard clear or black PVC airline can float once filled with air, which can leave pipework visible across the water surface and exposed to boats, wildlife, nets, maintenance work and ice. This super heavy duty weighted airline is made from a high density flexible PVC composite, giving it the weight needed to sink naturally while still being manageable during installation.

The larger bore is particularly useful where higher airflow is required or where the airline run is longer than normal. Smaller airline can create unnecessary friction loss, especially when used with large air pumps or multi disc diffuser stations. A larger internal diameter helps reduce restriction, allowing more of the pump output to reach the diffuser rather than being lost through narrow pipework and tight fittings.

Each length is supplied as a full 30 metre roll, which is approximately 100 feet. A single 30 metre length weighs around 16kg, making this a very robust product compared with standard sinking airline. It is best suited to serious aeration work, including large ponds, estate lakes, fisheries, farm ponds and commercial water bodies where the airline is expected to remain in place for long periods.

Where this airline is best used

This airline is most useful as a heavy underwater run from the bank or equipment area to a lake diffuser station. It is a strong match for larger air pumps and diffuser stations, including Charles Austen DSW diffuser stations and other large pond and lake aeration systems. It is not normally required for small aquarium air stones or tiny pond air pumps, where 4mm, 8mm or 10mm sinking airline will usually be easier and more suitable.

For systems with multiple diffuser lines, this airline can also be used as a larger trunk line before splitting the airflow through suitable manifolds or adaptors. The new 12mm and 14mm options on our 2 way air manifold and 4 way air manifold can be helpful on larger aeration layouts, although fittings should always be checked against the 12.5mm internal diameter and 30mm external diameter before installation.

Standard, heavy duty or super heavy duty airline?

Choosing the correct airline makes a big difference to airflow, neatness and long term reliability. Small bore airline is easy to handle and works well for compact systems, but larger aeration systems benefit from a more substantial hose with less restriction and better underwater stability.

Installation advice

Plan the route before placing the airline into the water. The hose is heavy, so it is easier to install with two people on larger ponds or lakes. Avoid sharp bends, crushing, tight kinks or pulling the pipe hard against edges, as any restriction in the airline can reduce airflow and increase back pressure on the air pump.

Where a longer run is required, suitable joiners can be used to connect additional lengths. Any joint should be made securely and checked before the airline is sunk into position. If the airline is being connected to a manifold, diffuser station or pump outlet, use properly sized fittings and clamps where needed. Do not force a small fitting into the hose or reduce the line down too early, as this can reduce the benefit of using a large bore airline.
