Oase Niagara Falls grey watercourse: choose a spring or an overhang

The Oase Niagara Falls grey range lets you build a broad waterfall without shaping every ledge from separate stones. These are two different watercourse elements: a spring that introduces the water and an overhang that creates the projecting edge of the fall. Choose the piece that your layout needs, or plan a combination of both. Each option is supplied as one element; selecting one does not include the other.

Grey is the finish for these two options. It is a different choice from the slate brown Niagara Falls elements that appear in many catalogue photographs. Check the selected option and its item number before ordering so that the shape, finish and water inlet match your design.

Spring / source: item 33048

The grey spring measures 700 × 980 × 150mm: length, width and height. This is the source element, intended to receive the pumped water at the start of the arrangement. The manufacturer’s Niagara Falls description identifies a 32mm connection, stopper and stepped hose connector for the source. Check the supplied connector against your hose and plan access to that connection before the surrounding bank is finished.

A spring is the appropriate choice when you need a water inlet in this part of the feature. Its broad shape needs a stable support across the element, rather than a narrow pedestal beneath one point. Measure the usable space on the bank as well as the route by which the piece will reach the garden.

Overhang: item 33057

The grey overhang measures 800 × 1050 × 120mm. It has a different purpose: it forms a projecting waterfall edge downstream of the source. Oase specifically distinguishes this piece from a source. The overhang cannot be used as the pumped water inlet, so do not order it as a substitute for the spring or drill it to copy a source connection.

When combining the pieces, think about the direction of water travel and the receiving area below the lip. The water must return to the pond or a suitably designed reservoir throughout the chosen flow range. An attractive dry arrangement still needs a running test before its edges are concealed.

Planning the waterfall footprint

Draw the proposed arrangement at its full size before digging or constructing the support. The measurements above describe the individual elements. They do not establish the finished footprint of a combined waterfall, because the overlap, drop and bank shape also affect the space required.

Allow working room around the hose connection and leave a route for future maintenance. Consider how you will remove fallen leaves, inspect joints and reach the pump without dismantling the finished bank. Keep soil and loose edging outside the water path so that a small change in the flow does not wash material into the pond.

The grey finish is hand applied to create a natural appearance, and the manufacturer describes a robust, weather-resistant polyresin construction. Hand finishing can give individual pieces some variation. Use plants and the surrounding stonework to settle the feature into the garden, while keeping the spill edge and maintenance access clear.

Choosing a pump and setting the flow

A watercourse needs a separate pump and a suitable hose route. The pump’s advertised maximum flow is measured under particular conditions; the water delivered to a raised waterfall will be reduced by the lift and by resistance in the hose and fittings. Start with the required flow at the waterfall and the actual lift from pond level to the inlet.

A flow-adjustable pump can make it easier to set the appearance of the fall once the feature is installed. As one comparison, see the Pontec PondoMax Eco Control 5000 and check its flow curve against your proposed lift. This link is a starting point for selecting the pump, rather than a promise that one model suits every Niagara Falls installation.

Begin the running test at a gentle flow and increase it gradually. Check where the water lands, whether it stays within the receiving area and whether any splashing escapes the liner. A stronger waterfall can change the sound and appearance, but it can also increase water loss outside the intended return path. Resolve those effects before adding the final landscaping.

Installation and ongoing care

Support the elements securely and test their alignment before connecting the pump. Keep the hose supported so that its weight does not pull on the source fitting. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the watercourse and the chosen pump; the watercourse element itself does not supply the pump, hose, liner or electrical installation.

Check the return path during normal operation and after cleaning or repositioning the pump. Remove leaves and accumulated debris from the source and waterfall edge so that water cannot be diverted over the sides. Review the pump’s own instructions when deciding how to operate or store the system in freezing weather.

A waterfall is a decorative water feature. It does not replace the pond’s appropriate filtration or a dedicated aeration system where those are required. Plan those functions alongside the waterfall, rather than relying on the appearance of flowing water to show that the whole pond is adequately supported.

Other waterfall layouts to compare

If you are building a stepped feature, compare the Rockways Aber Falls Step and Aber Falls Drop. Their dimensions and forms differ from these Niagara Falls elements, so compare the complete layout and connection arrangement before mixing ranges. We recommend selecting the shapes around the space and water path you actually have, rather than buying several pieces and assuming they will fit together.
