In-Lite BIG SCOPE Wide-Beam 12V Garden Spotlight

In-Lite BIG SCOPE is the wide-beam tree and feature spotlight in the SCOPE family. Its 422-lumen output spreads through a broad 51-degree beam, making it particularly effective on mature trees with spreading crowns, multi-stem specimens, pleached trees, espaliers, substantial hedges and larger areas of textured facade.

A wide subject needs more than raw brightness. It needs a beam that reaches across the canopy without leaving one narrow shaft of light and large areas of darkness. BIG SCOPE is designed for that job, with a practical lighting reach of about six metres and a dark aluminium body that can be concealed within the garden during daylight hours.

Where this In-Lite spotlight works best

This fitting is particularly well suited to:

• mature trees with broad or multi-stemmed crowns
• espaliers, pleached trees and substantial sections of hedge
• wide facade details, textured walls and large garden features
• planting compositions where an even spread matters more than maximum reach
• lighting from several metres away so the full shape of the subject is revealed

Good landscape lighting is usually layered. Combine a small number of carefully aimed spotlights with path, wall, recessed or planting lights rather than relying on one style of fitting everywhere. The aim is to reveal the shape of the garden and make routes comfortable to use without making the whole space uniformly bright.

Position the beam before fixing the cable route

For a broad tree, start several metres outside the trunk and aim into the upper crown. Two BIG SCOPE fittings from different angles often produce the most natural result: one can reveal the main structure while the other lifts the darker side of the canopy. Avoid putting a single fitting immediately at the trunk, where the wide beam is unable to open and the closest branches can become overexposed.

We recommend testing the proposed position after dark with the cable still loose. View the light from the house, the main route through the garden and the principal seating area. Once the angle is right, mark the position and finish the cable route. This small trial prevents the most common problem with garden spotlights: a technically correct installation that shines into somebody’s eyes.

Installation and mounting

BIG SCOPE is supplied with a ground pin for soil, gravel or grass and can also be converted to its bracket for fixing to suitable timber, brick or stone. The package includes the required screw, plug and cable grommet for the alternative installation. The 0.6m fixture cable connects to the included EASY-LOCK; use a CBL-EXT CORD where the main cable cannot pass conveniently near the final light position.

Control glare and protect the light effect

The wide, powerful beam needs careful aiming. Use SHIELD 2 where the source can be seen from one principal direction. For suitable wall or ceiling applications, KILLFLASH 2 reduces direct glare, but it should not be used where an upward-facing ground light can retain water. RISER 1, RISER 2 and the BRACE system can raise the beam above intervening planting.

Connect it to the In-Lite low-voltage system

Connect the fitting to genuine In-Lite CBL system cable using the supplied EASY-LOCK. If the attached fixture cable cannot conveniently reach the main cable, use an In-Lite CBL-EXT CORD rather than improvising an unapproved joint.

The fitting must not be connected directly to the mains. It requires a compatible In-Lite transformer or SMART HUB. When sizing the transformer, add the VA load of every proposed light; do not total only the wattage. Leave a sensible capacity margin if the scheme may be expanded later and distribute the connected load appropriately between the available cable outputs.

Light quality, outdoor durability and maintenance

The integrated LED has a stated service-life indication of approximately 25,000 hours. Its aluminium construction and IP67 rating are intended for exposed garden use, while CRI 91 preserves convincing colour in foliage, bark, brick and stone.

Keep the lens clean and make sure mulch, leaves and new plant growth do not cover the fitting or block the beam. Revisit the aiming as trees and shrubs grow. A well-designed In-Lite scheme is easy to adapt: fittings can be moved or redirected without rebuilding the whole cable network.

Choosing the right model

Choose SCOPE when a narrower 25-degree beam and slightly longer reach suit the feature. Choose BIG SCOPE NARROW for a very tall, slender tree requiring a concentrated beam out to approximately fourteen metres. BIG SCOPE is the stronger choice for width, canopy spread and large multi-stem forms.
